Network Administrator Page 1 I 2 Jurisdiction: Board of Education Jurisdictional Classification: Competitive Adopted: 5/20/99 Amended: 6/12/23 NETWORK ADMINISTRATOR DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS: This work involves responsibility for installing and maintaining the District’s servers as well as its local and wide area network systems. Expertise is required in installing, customizing and maintaining vendor supplied operating systems, application software, hardware and networking components (NICs, hubs, switches, routers). Does related work as required. TYPICAL WORK DUTIES: (Illustrative only) Installs, customizes and supports all server based software and hardware; Installs, customizes and supports all local and wide area network components; Monitors and adjusts the district’s networks for optimal performance; Organizes, prepares and periodically updates local and wide area network documentation. (This includes all modifications, installations, removals, version changes, etc.); Performs hardware, software and network component evaluations and provides management with reports and recommendations; Establishes and maintains standards to efficiently utilize the district’s servers and networks. FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS: Thorough knowledge of server based software and hardware; Thorough knowledge of local and wide area network systems and topologies; Thorough knowledge of communications hardware and software; Ability to communicate clearly, orally and in writing, with network users, technicians and vendors; Ability to gather and analyze information and draw logical conclusions; Ability to undertake further training as technology changes; Physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Either: Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with a Baccalaureate Degree in Computer Science or closely related field, and one year work experience in network administration, installation, support and maintenance; OR Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with an Associates Degree in Computer Science or a closely related field and three years of experience in network administration, installation, support and maintenance; OR ---PAGE BREAK--- Network Administrator Page 2 I 2 Five years of full-time work experience, or its part-time equivalent in network administration, installation, support and maintenance; OR An equivalent combination of education and experience as described above. NOTE: Degree must have been awarded by a college or university accredited by a regional, national, or specialized agency recognized as an accrediting agency by the U.S. Department of Education/U.S. Secretary of Education. If the degree was awarded by an educational institution outside of the United States and its territories, applicant must provide independent verification of equivalency.
