Survival Skills: 1st Floor Window Bailout First Floor Window Bailout – 2002 Edition, NFPA 1001 5.3.1, 5.3.5 NEW YORK STATE DEPARTMENT OF STATE Skill Sheet 23-2 Candidate's Name Date Evaluator's Name Evaluator's Signature The candidate, given a complete set of PPE, SCBA, and a hand-tool, shall clear glass from a window for emergency exit (may be simulated) and then perform the emergency exit procedure from a first story window in accordance with Delmar, Firefighter’s Handbook, 2 ed., NYS ed. Time limit for this station is 5 minutes; however, candidate has 30 seconds to demonstrate simulation of clearing the window of glass and obstructions. 02/2007 Criteria: Pass Fail Candidate locates an appropriate window for exit Stays low and strikes window glass as high as possible in middle of pane Striking action continues to bottom corner of window Uses sweeping motion to clear remaining glass Any additional obstructions are cleared Time to this point does not exceed 30 seconds Locates and grasps window sill while remaining low Maintains hold on window sill and goes head first out window Stays low while passing through window and allows feet to strike ground first Protective gear is worn correctly throughout evolution Evaluator Notes
