Jurisdiction: Village of Marathon Jurisdictional Class: Exempt Adopted: 1/1/1977 DEPUTY VILLAGE CLERK DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS: This is routine clerical work involving responsibility for performing a variety of unrelated tasks in connection with the proceedings of the Village Board and the operation of Village Government. Work is performed under the general direction of the Village Clerk with some leeway for use of independent judgment in carrying out details of the work. TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES: (Illustrative only) Assumes the duties of the Village Clerk during the absence of or at the pleasure of the Village Clerk; Prepares material for meetings of the Village Board, may attend meetings, record proceedings and maintains records; Indexes and files deeds, contracts, insurance policies and other legal in struments; Answers questions for the public concerning procedures of the Village Clerk's office and provides information about ordinances adopted by the Village Board; Checks vouchers and invoices for accuracy and completeness; May collect water or utility bills and issue receipts; Keeps accounts and prepares reports pertaining to monies received. FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS: A working knowledge of office terminology, procedures and equipment; working knowledge of the organization and operation of Village Government; working knowledge of business arithmetic and English; ability to maintain records and prepare reports; ability to deal efficiently with the public; clerical apti tude; accuracy; dependability; good physical condition. SUGGESTED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Possession of a high school diploma or GED at least one year of satisfactory clerical experience.
