Portable Ladders – One & Two Firefighter Carry and Raise NEW YORK STATE DEPARTMENT OF STATE Practical Examination q Pass q Fail Candidate's Name Date Evaluator's Name Evaluator's Signature The firefighters, working in teams of two, and using a 24' extension ladder, shall, while wearing full turnout gear, correctly carry the ladder a distance of 50 feet, raise the ladder to a given objective, set the ladder at the correct climbing angle, and climb the ladder, as outlined NYS Truck Company Operations. Boot Camp candidates will also perform this skill as a single firefighter. Time limit for this station is five minutes. Timing starts when the candidate tells the evaluator he is ready to start and then touches the ladder. TASK POSSIBLE POINTS POINTS AWARDED COMMENTS Safely removes ladder from apparatus or ground 1 Carries ladder a distance of 50' to the building butt first using one of following:[circle one used] High shoulder Low shoulder Extended arm 1 Checks for overhead obstructions before raising 1 Butt of ladder is proper distance from building 1 One Firefighter butts ladder or self butts 1 Ladder is brought to a vertical position against building using one of the following: [circle one used] Flat raise Beam raise 1 Ladder is stable and under control 1 Fly extended to correct distance and is on the outside 1 Halyard correctly tied off 1 Before climbing, firefighter checks climbing angle and tip placement, corrects if necessary 1 One Firefighter safely climbs to the assigned point (maintains hand contact with ladder at all times while climbing) 1 Firefighter safely descends ladder (maintains hand contact with ladder at all times) 1 Firefighters correctly lower ladder to ground and return it to the apparatus 1 Correctly wears protective gear throughout evolution 1 Total possible points 14 Candidate must achieve a total of 10 points to pass this station and be awarded all points in the shaded, bold areas. Unacceptable performance or failure to complete any task in the shaded bold areas constitutes a failure of the station. No partial points shall be awarded. 02/20/2003
