Cemetery Sexton P/T Page 1 I 1 Jurisdiction: Village of McGraw Jurisdictional Class: Non-competitive Adopted: 10/29/91 Revised: 3/14/07 CEMETERY SEXTON (P/T) DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS: The work is primarily of a routine nature requiring efficient performance of grounds maintenance activities and cemetery management. The work is performed under general supervision of the Village Board in accordance with established procedures. Does related work as required. TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES: (Illustrative only) Oversees employees in the cemetery regarding grounds keeping, mowing and trimming; Places foundations for headstones; Sells lots and completes appropriate bookwork; Lays out new lots and roadways; Works with undertakers concerning burials and the use of the vault; Performs other work as related to cemetery management. FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS: Working knowledge of grounds cleaning and maintenance methods, materials and equipment; Ability to plan and supervise the work of others; Ability to work with the public; Ability to prepare and maintain written records and reports; Initiative; Sound judgment; Physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma. SPECIAL REQUIREMENT: Possession of a Class D NYS Driver’s license at time of appointment.
