Senior Keyboard Specialist Page 1 I 2 Jurisdiction: Cortland County, City of Cortland, Schools, Towns, and Villages Jurisdictional Class: Competitive Adopted: 1/1/77 Revised: 12/11/90; 6/28/91; 11/15/94; 8/17/98; 4/20/02; 10/23/03; 5/6/08 SENIOR KEYBOARD SPECIALIST DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS: This is moderately difficult clerical and typing work requiring a general understanding of specific law, office rules, procedures, and policies. The work calls for the exercise of independent judgment in the application of prescribed procedures and methods to routine cases. Unusual problems or situations not previously encountered are referred to supervisors before action is taken. For the most part, work is performed under general supervision. Supervision may be exercised over the work of one or more subordinates. Does related work as required. TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES: (Illustrative only) Types materials from copy, rough draft, Dictaphone tapes, and other detailed instructions; Types, processes, indexes, sorts, records, and files a variety of control records and reports; Types a variety of records and reports and checks for clerical accuracy, completeness, and proper extension; Collects, compiles, and types statistics and other related information; Composes and types routine correspondence, applying a knowledge of departmental operations and regulations; Operates standard typewriter and/or personal computer; Collects fees and accounts for monies received; Ensures that the proper paperwork is completed and distributed internally and/or externally, as it relates to the services provided to clients; May act as receptionist for an office by answering phones, taking messages, setting up appointments, greeting visitors, providing routine information, sorting and distributing mail; May operate mimeograph, calculator, and other office machines; May copy, collate, and mail documents; May maintain filing system. FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS: Good knowledge of office terminology, procedures, and equipment; Good knowledge of business arithmetic and English; Working knowledge of various forms and their applications; Ability to type accurately at a satisfactory rate of speed; Ability to understand and carry out oral and written directions; Ability to get along well with others; Ability to deal firmly yet courteously with the public; Ability to write legibly; Clerical aptitude; Mental alertness; Neatness; Accuracy; Tact; Physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position. ---PAGE BREAK--- Senior Keyboard Specialist Page 2 I 2 MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Either: Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma and two years of full-time or its part-time equivalent clerical experience involving typing or the operation of a word processor or computer; OR Three years of experience as defined in
