Jurisdiction: Cortland County Jurisdictional Class: Labor Adopted: 10/20/05 WATCHPERSON DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS: The work involves responsibility for patrolling buildings and grounds to ensure that property and equipment are secure during other than normal working hours. Does related work as required. TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES: (Illustrative only) Patrols buildings and checks all windows, doors, gates, and entrances to buildings to make certain they are closed and locked; Prevents admittance to the premises of unauthorized persons; Checks unusual conditions or disturbances, and takes appropriate action in case of emergency; Notifies supervisor of any unusual or emergency conditions; When assignments permit, may perform routine cleaning and maintenance duties; Answers telephones and operates a two-way radio. FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS: Good knowledge of the duties and responsibilities of a watchperson; Ability to make minor emergency repairs to plumbing, lighting and heating systems; Ability to think and act quickly in emergencies and write accurate reports of incidents; Physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: None SPECIAL REQUIREMENT: Possession of a valid New York State Class D driver's license. Failure to maintain a NYS Class D driver's license will result in disciplinary action or dismissal.
