2018 CORTLAND COUNTY HIGHWAY DEPARTMENT SPECIFICATIONS AND BID FORMS GRAVEL The bid shall be in conformance with the terms and conditions specified in the Advertisement for Bids, and shall also be in conformance with the following specifications. All bids shall include all items listed in the “Checklist of documents for submission” found on page 1 of the Cortland County Standard Contract - 2018. Specifications: Materials: Screened gravel shall be produced from the process of screening oversized material from bank run gravel. Crushed gravel shall be produced from crushing oversized material from bank run gravel. Bank run gravel shall be gravel as excavated directly from the face of the cut being mined. Both screened gravel and crushed gravel shall conform to the following gradation: Sieve Size Designation Percent passing by weight 2 inch 100 ¼ inch 30-65 Number 40 5-40 Number 200 0-10 Both screened gravel and crushed gravel shall consist of material having a Magnesium Sulfate Soundness loss test of less than 20% after four cycles. Basis for acceptance: For all materials provided under this bid, contractor shall provide a Sieve Analysis and Magnesium Sulfate Soundness test conforming to the above specifications, along with a Modified Proctor test from no longer than one calendar year prior to bid opening. The submission of a current Sieve Analysis and Magnesium Sulfate Soundness Test may be waived if the bidder submits proof that the source of gravel is present on the current NYSDOT “Approved List for Sources of Fine & Coarse Aggregates – Gravel” for the appropriate region. By submitting a bid, the contractor grants permission for the Cortland County Superintendent of Highways, or his authorized representative, to enter upon the lands of the bidder for the purposes of inspection, sampling, and/or testing of the materials provided in this bid.
