Client Liaison Specialist Page 1 I 2 Jurisdiction: Cortland County Jurisdictional Class: Competitive Adopted: 1/1/17 Amended: 10/29/20; 10/24/22 CLIENT LIAISON SPECIALIST DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS: The work involves responsibility for a variety on para-professional functions to assist Public Defender clients on non-legal matters. The incumbent meets with clients to determine potential service needs such as housing, education, insurance, mental health counseling and assisting in completing necessary forms. Duties also include performance of clerical and related office tasks. The work is performed under supervision. Does related work as required. TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES: (Illustrative only) Provides information to individuals concerning services offered by public and private agencies; Assists clients in completing necessary forms and in obtaining eligibility information (ie: proof of birth, deaths and marriages); Notify and/or remind clients of important dates and times for meetings, court appearances and other appointments; Acts as liaison between clients and agencies; Develops and maintains comprehensive data base on community public and private agencies; Maintains records of contracts/referrals; Answers phone and takes written messages; Provides periodic outreach to clients; Does occasional clerical work such as filing, assembling material or compiling data; Create and maintain applications, fliers, pamphlets, checklists regarding services; May attend appointments with clients. FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS: Working knowledge of community resources and organizations; Working knowledge of modern principles and practices of social casework; Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and courteous relationships with clients, agency staff and the general public; Ability to interpret agency programs, goals and eligibility requirements; Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions; Ability to operate an alphanumeric keyboard such as a typewriter, word processor or personal computer; Ability to organize and maintain accurate records and files; Cleaning methods, materials and equipment; Working knowledge of recycling procedures; Ability to understand and follow simple oral and written instructions; Ability to perform routine cleaning tasks; Physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Either: Possession of an Associate’s degree or higher in human services or related field; OR ---PAGE BREAK--- Client Liaison Specialist Page 2 I 2 Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma and two years of experience providing services to individuals in a human services field; OR An equivalent combination of training and experience as defined by the limits of and NOTE: Your degree must have been awarded by a college or university accredited by a regional, national, or specialized agency recognized as an accrediting agency by the U.S. Department of Education/U.S. Secretary of Education. If your degree was awarded by an educational institution outside the United States and its territories, you must provide independent verification of equivalency.
