Personnel Coordinator Page 1 I 2 Jurisdiction: City Board of Education Jurisdictional Class: Competitive Adopted: 10/9/90 Amended: 7/16/97; 7/7/23 PERSONNEL COORDINATOR DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS: This position involves responsibility for coordination of all personnel needs for an enlarged school district including recruitment, screening interviewees, orientation, and maintenance of personnel records. Work is performed under the general direction of the Superintendent of Schools or his/her designee, with leeway allowed for exercise of independent judgment in carrying out details of the work. TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES: (Illustrative only) Maintains close contact with school officials and department heads in planning and anticipating personnel needs for the district; Screens and processes school district applications received from applicants for school positions; May conduct screening interviews and recommend applicants to school officials for consideration for appointment to substitute Teacher Aide positions; Announces vacancies in the district in accordance with contractual posting procedures; Receives, reviews, and processes reassignment requests in accordance with contractual procedures; Assists the Superintendent of Schools or designee in a variety of personnel management functions related to city school employees; Coordinates employee evaluation functions; Maintains a wide variety of personnel records pertinent to employment, transfer, leave, appointment, classification, retirement, certification, etc.; Maintains close contact with the County Civil Service Department regarding a variety of records and reports; Prepares new employees for their job; Operates computing, calculating, data entry, and other office machines; Serves as a back-up and relief to other offices in the district. FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS: Working knowledge of personnel management principles, practices, and procedures; Ability to readily acquire familiarity with contractual agreements, policies, and recommendations affecting school district employees; Ability to interview and counsel employees; Ability to establish and maintain cooperative relationship with others; Ability to present written and oral comments clearly and concisely; Ability to operate a computer; Good physical condition. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Either: Graduation from a regionally accredited or NYS registered college or university with a bachelor's degree in social sciences, human resources, business management, public ---PAGE BREAK--- Personnel Coordinator Page 2 I 2 administration, or related field; OR Graduation from a regionally accredited or NYS registered two year college with an associate's degree in business management, administration, social sciences, Public Administration, or a related field and two years of experience in personnel management, administration, or a related field; OR Graduation from high school and four years of experience in personnel management, administration, or a related field; OR Any equivalent combination of experience and training. NOTE: Degree must have been awarded by a college or university accredited by a regional, national, or specialized agency recognized as an accrediting agency by the U.S. Department of Education/U.S. Secretary of Education. If the degree was awarded by an educational institution outside of the United States and its territories, applicant must provide independent verification of equivalency.
