F A C T S H E E T What is Labor Market Information? The New York State Department of Labor is the princi- pal source of Labor Market Information (LMI) in the state. Labor Market Information is economic data that is of key interest to you as an employer. It includes labor supply and cost; industry trends; population characteristics; affirmative action information; occupational injuries and illnesses; and collective bargaining settlements. Department staff care- fully organize and package LMI so that it will be useful to employers who want to identify, recruit and retain workers. The web site contains almost all of the Labor Market Information that the department generates for its many customers. It includes wages, employment and unemployment data, and contacts for local labor market Why is it important to me? The unique knowledge available through analysis of Labor Market Information allows you to get a picture of the dynamics of the population in your business area. How do I get to this information? It’s easier than ever to tap Labor Market Information on the NYSDOL web site, thanks to new page design. Statisti- cal data for businesses and employers is available around the clock, in a readily understandable manner. The new data web site is the result of a joint effort between the Employment and Training Administration of the U.S. Department of Labor and state governments. Through this cooperative effort research is conducted, products developed and information is delivered to cus- tomers. All information on the new site provides “one-stop shopping” for data users. What else will I find on this site? The information available includes non-farm jobs and unemployment data. It also includes detailed employment and wage information by place of work, based on data collected from employers under New York State’s Unem- ployment Insurance Law. The web site also contains ten- year occupational projections and wage data on nearly 700 occupations in New York and its ten labor market regions, with both average and entry/experienced worker wage levels. Population and personal income figures extend back to 1969. The significant enhancements to the page include expanded technical notes for each of the key Labor Market Information data series, answers to frequently asked questions, and direct links to the Labor Department’s jobs press release and Research and Statistics Division newsletter.
