Jurisdiction: DeRuyter School Jurisdictional Class: Competitive Adopted: BUILDING AND GROUNDS SUPERVISOR DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS: This position involves responsibility for supervising and participating in the maintenance and cleaning of the buildings and grounds for the school district. The incumbent plans, directs and participates in maintenance and cleaning activities. The work is performed under the general supervision of the School Business Administrator. Supervision is exercised over the work of custodial, maintenance, and grounds keeping personnel. Does related work as required. TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES: (Illustrative only) Oversees the maintenance and upkeep of school buildings and grounds; Supervises building cleaning, maintenance activities, and employees; Establishes schedules of work; Completes evaluations on custodial, maintenance, and grounds personnel; Supervises and assists the more difficult maintenance and repair work; First responder to grievances and personnel problems of subordinate employees; Inspects and supervises contract maintenance; Maintains employee time records; Assists in the development of the building and ground's budget. FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS: Good knowledge of standard cleaning, building maintenance and repair practices; Ability to supervise work of others engaged in building and grounds maintenance activities; Ability to communicate orally and in writing; Ability to plan and supervise the work of others; Ability to understand and follow oral and written directions; Ability to compile data and write reports; Physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Possession of a high school diploma or GED and three years of full-time or its part-time equivalent in general buildings and grounds maintenance activities, one year of which must have been in a supervisory capacity. NOTE: Experience in any of the standard building construction trades may be substituted for the above experience on a year-for-year basis.
