Columbia County Library Board Meeting May 23, 2023 • 11:30 am In attendance: Columbia County Library Board Russell Wilder, Board Chair Windy Bedingfield, Treasurer Marlena Bergeron Tripp Calloway Barry Paschal Lindsey Brantley Absent Stephanie Coghlan Library Staff • Mary Lin Maner, Library Director • Devin Morris, Regional Admin Coordinator Other • John Luton, Director, Community Services Call to Order The meeting was called to order at 11:31 am. Approval of Agenda The agenda was approved. Approval of Minutes Lindsey made a request for the April minutes to be amended to include a conversation about how library staff and Mary Lin handle patron book concerns. This was not included in the original minutes because it was not an agenda and did meet the requirements to be “New Business”. Lindsey also requested that explanations be given for the reason the board members vote “No” to marking books that had been submitted by patrons for Reconsideration. The Board said they are fine with the additions. Devin will add the items to the April minutes and email the board for their approval. Friends of the Libraries At the suggestion of South State Bank, Friends has decided to open a savings account and a CD. Balances are as follows: • Checking: $5,779.53 • Savings: $26,002.01 • CD: $10,000 ---PAGE BREAK--- Requests for Reconsideration None. Treasurer Report 2 CDs have matured, one with First Community and one at Edward Jones. Marlena made a motion to move the CD with First Community to Edwards Jones, all approved. Windy will speak to Ron Lentz at Edward Jones about rates and will email with the board to make a decision. May 24, 2023 - Board voted via email to purchase a CD through Edward Jones for 9 months at 5.25% to mature March 1, 2024. June 5, 2024 – Board voted via email to purchase a CD through Edward Jones for 18 months at 5.2% to mature December 9, 2024. County Library Manager Report The 2nd Annual Putt-Putt in the Stack, a Friends Fundraiser’s is June 7. Summer Learning Kickoff is May 24 Report Board voted to approve the 2024 Budget. Unfinished Business None. New Business None. Members of the public Greta Vega and Heather Carey came to speak about the recent news reports of other members of the public trying to have certain books removed from the library. Next meeting: Tuesday, September 12, 2023 at 11:30 am at the Columbia County Library. Meeting adjourned at 12:11 pm.
