Historic Property Preservation Advisory Committee December 10th, 2024 at 4:00 PM Performing Arts Center, 1000 Market Street Evans, Georgia Present at the meeting included: Bill Morris, Chairman Phil Turner Adam Pankow Billy Jackson, Jr. Will Butler, Planning Manager 1. Call to Order Chairman Bill Morris called the meeting to order at 4:05 PM. A quorum of the Committee was present with Dean Beasley, Vice Chairman, Jamey Sprowls, Secretary, and Tripp Calloway absent. 2. Approval of the October 22nd, Meeting Minutes Tripp Calloway motioned for approval of the Minutes. Adam Pankow seconded. The motion carried unanimously. 3. Old Business a. Woodlawn CME-Update Phil Turner gave an update on the progress of this project. Going to meet at church to discuss the history of the church, as well as interview church goers. The committee also discussed meeting with Al Harris and his father, Mr. J. Arthur Harris, regarding the Pollard Academy and Mr. J. Arthur. Also noted the 1910 map of Columbia County as informative. b. White Oak Community Signage Planning Manager Butler presented the Committee with proposed locations of the signage in the White Oak Community. Signage was adjusted on White Oak Road and other locations approved to be taken to Roads & Bridges for installation. c. Jackson Home Place-Update Billy Jackson, Jr. provided an update that there was no damage from the hurricane. Saving fireplace bricks for fire pit at other properties. 4. New Business a. Museum at PAC Tour The committee viewed the space and later looked at the storage area. Discussed that the Centennial Quilt in Harlem would be good to include as part of the museum. The Bicentennial quilt may also be available. Discussion regarding the North Augusta Museum occurred. Planning Manager Butler stated that he and other staff had attended the museum and had some ideas, but also to realize that a large portion of that museum was provided by the state. b. Save the Columns Fund Donation Billy Jackson, Jr. discussed the Save the Columns Fund donation to help get the museum started and this was going to the BOC later that month. c. Schedule The Committee discussed and decided that a quarterly meeting schedule was preferred. Next meeting tentatively scheduled for March 11th. ---PAGE BREAK--- 5. Adjourn Phil Turner made the motion to adjourn with Chairman Bill Morris seconding the motion. Meeting adjourned at 4:54PM. The next meeting of the Historic Property Preservation Advisory Committee meeting is tentatively scheduled for Tuesday, March 11th, 2025 in the Building B Conference Room, 1st Floor.
