Greater Clarks Hill Regional Library Board Meeting May 10, 2022 • 11:00 am In attendance: Greater Clarks Hill Regional Library System Board • Russell Wilder, Columbia County • Bill Tinley, Burke County • Marlena Bergeron, Columbia County • Tripp Calloway, Columbia County • Janet Wheatley, Columbia County • Marianne Frye, Columbia County • John Graham, Warren County • Rita Johnson, Warren County • Lynn Crews, Burke County Missing • Nicky Smith, Lincoln County Staff • Mary Lin Maner, Library Director • Devin Morris, Regional Administrative Coordinator Call to Order The meeting was called to order at 11:02 am. Approval of Agenda The agenda was approved unanimously and without comment. Approval of Minutes The minutes from the March meeting were approved unanimously and without comment. Treasurer Report See Treasurer Report. • $5000 salary amendment was split between LCO, WCO and BCO positions. They will each receive a salary increase of $1,667. • All libraries are on track to finish spending their SSG money by the end of May. Director’s Report • Data from State DVD transits, our region send out the most DVDs in the state for holds. • PINES Patron Satisfaction Survey results are in and 69% of patrons feel like it is easy to use the PINES online catalog, 60% says they can easy find what they are looking for. 78% of patrons are satisfied with the library card system. ---PAGE BREAK--- • PLIX (Public Library Information Exchange) training with MIT for staff members who lead our Makerspace programs. • LibTech money for 2022-2023 has been divided out and we will be purchasing new 3D printers, Nintendo Switches and other tech related items. Report of Committees New Business -Book Reconsideration Request Patron request for the book Drama to be removed from the library collection over inappropriate content. A sub committee was formed, all members read the book and found that there was no questionable material. Content was modern and age appropriate. Russell did suggest that it be moved from Juvenile to Young Adult and the subcommittee did agree. Subcommittee found that the book follows all ALA criteria to be in the library. Patron was given the opportunity to attend the meeting and support her case, but they did not attend. Tripp motioned to keep the book in the library’s collection, Marlena seconded, all members voted in favor. Book will remain in Juvenile as it is the correct age group for the book. Unfinished Business State budget had not yet been approved, Board could not approve of the budget. Special meeting date of Tuesday, May 31 at 11 am was motioned and approved. Next meeting: Tuesday, May 31, 2022 at 11:00 am at the Columbia County Library. Meeting adjourned at 11:34 am.
