Columbia County Library Board Meeting March 14, 2023 • 11:30 am In attendance: Columbia County Library Board Russell Wilder, Board Chair Windy Bedingfield, Treasurer Marlena Bergeron Tripp Calloway Barry Paschal Lindsey Brantley Absent Stephanie Coghlan Library Staff • John Luton, Director, Community Services • Mary Lin Maner, Library Director • Devin Morris, Regional Admin Coordinator Call to Order The meeting was called to order at 11:30 am. Approval of Agenda The agenda was approved. Approval of Minutes The minutes from the February meeting were approved. Friends of the Libraries 14 Corporate Memberships 142 Lifetime Memberships, 44 Family Memberships and 40 Individual Memberships Checkbook balance = $60,622.59 Nathan Locke has stepped down as the Friends President and Betty Renard will be the new President. Treasurer Report See Treasurer Report. 2 CDs will be maturing in May. Mary Lin requested that $50,000 be moved from the Unreserved Fund and into the Material Fund for purchase of library materials. Windy made the motion and Russel seconded, all voted in favor. Nothing Bundt Cakes will be working with Friends to setup a Bundt sale fundraiser at all 3 of the libraries. ---PAGE BREAK--- County Library Manager Report Bigfoot Presentation happened on March 12, there were 30 attendees. We are partnering with Augusta University to hold an author event for their AU Writers Weekend. Elissa Basse and Chris Belden will be here on March 16 to discuss their books and have a signing. The Columbia County Library and the Harlem Library will be holding the 2nd Annual Putt-Putt in the Stack, a Friends Fundraiser, on May 24. This will act as our Summer Learning 2023 kickoff as well. All 3 branches are holding a Blippy coloring contest in the children’s department, the winner will receive a family four pack of tickets to the Blippy show at the Columbia County Performing Arts Center. We will begin pushing pre-registration for Summer Learning through Beanstack in April. Nothing Bundt Cakes will be donating Bundlet certificates as Summer Learning prizes for the children’s department. Their Bundt Fairy will also be coming for a storytime visit. The Launchpads that were paid for by the GEAR Grant will begin circulation in April. Report PINES Upgrade was MLK weekend, there were very few issues. received a GEAR Grant, we were to receive Launchpads and Wi-Fi Hot Spots, but there was a legal issue with the Hots Spots so we only received the Launchpads. Summer Learning 2023 will begin on May 24 and end on July 21. New Business John Luton, Director of Community Services, discussed a plan that Commissioners Melear and Couch would like implement at the Columbia County Libraries. They would like a sticker or stamp to be placed on each book that has been submitted for reconsideration, so that other patron would recognize that this book has been through the appeal process, but the decision has been made to keep the book in the library. The board decided to wait until the April meeting to give an opinion on this idea, so that they may have time to discuss it.
