SUPERVISION RECEIVED Works under the general supervision of the Water Systems & Sanitation Superintendent. SUPERVISION EXERCISED None. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Driver/Collections: Drives assigned collection route(s), performs trash removal including emptying and moving dumpsters; drives truck, operates controls and loads roadside and dumpster trash and delivers to landfill; learns specific solid waste routes as assigned; completes required records and forms. Performs daily vehicle inspection to determine and ensure safe operation; performs general maintenance and repair on assigned vehicles; maintains dumpster, including painting, greasing, cleaning, etc. Performs manual assembly of dumpsters and rollout containers. Assists in the coordination of solid waste programs and services of the City of Cody. Recycling Operations: Assists with the record keeping of recyclables and keeps a log of quantity of materials. Assists the public with unloading recycling materials from vehicles; operates forklift as needed to load material onto semi-trailers; prepares trailers for transportation of packaged recyclables. Operates cardboard bailer and aluminum can blower. Sorts recyclable materials into appropriate bins. Documents and records weights of recyclable materials. Cleans the recycling facility, including sweeping, mopping and other necessary functions. Performs routine and light maintenance of forklift, sanitation truck and other equipment. May work as an equipment operator if assigned. May operate light, medium and heavy equipment with proper supervision and training. Provides customer service and offers useful information to the public regarding recyclables and solid waste. Helps coordinate special recycling or solid waste activities, such as workshops, demonstrations, Christmas tree collection or seasonal clean-ups. Provides support to other departments and the general public on recycling and related solid waste issues. Assists in the development of programs to promote and educate the public about solid waste, recycling and other related resource conservation issues. May make presentations to various educational, civic, business, government and service groups. ---PAGE BREAK--- MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS 1. Education and Experience: A. Graduation from high school or GED; AND B. One year of experience related to above duties; OR C. An equivalent combination of education and experience. 2. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Working knowledge of OSHA rules and regulations related to sanitation operations and equipment; general maintenance practices for commercial hauling trucks; painting processes and methods; basic customer relations and communications. Some knowledge of City policies, City Ordinances and State Statutes to ensure safe work practices; Skill in the operation of various types of equipment and hand tools, i.e., generator, drills, saws, grinders, press, steam washer, bobcat, forklift, etc.. Ability to work under pressures and surroundings common to refuse facilities and operations; tolerate weather extremes; follow established guidelines for refuse management and recycling operations; maintain cooperative working relationships with co-workers, supervisors, and customers; read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals; write routine reports. 3. Special Qualifications: Must possess and maintain a valid Wyoming Class Commercial Driver’s License. May be required to be or become a certified Forklift Operator. 4. Work Environment: Tasks require a variety of physical activities generally involving muscular strain and acute eye- hand coordination. Physical demands may occur in activities related to walking, standing, stooping, sitting, reaching, lifting, pulling, etc. Talking, hearing and seeing required in the daily performance of job duties. Daily exposure to changing weather conditions and extremes. Periodic exposure to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, explosives, risk of radiation, and vibration. Mental application utilizes memory for details, emotional stability and discriminating thinking. Periodic travel required in course of performing portions of job functions.
