Serves as route backup driver and trouble shooter. SUPERVISION RECEIVED Works under the general supervision of the Water Systems & Sanitation Superintendent. SUPERVISION EXERCISED None. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Field Coordination: Monitors daily route assignments and prepares driving schedules; determines coverage assignments as needed to adjust to holiday demands, sick leave, and vacation schedules; determines double-day routes; submits route assignments to division head/supervisor; incorporates seasonal businesses into collection schedules; conducts new driver training. Performs detailed and comprehensive maintenance, repair and reconditioning on dumpsters and rollout containers; welds and paints; operates pickup to transport rollout containers as needed to swap-out or fill container orders. Receives and follows up on customer service calls or nuisance calls; monitors new addresses and delivers containers; resolves customer service issues or refers customer to supervisor. As a lead worker and upon assignment, may attend supervisory meetings and represents the sanitation division; receives management direction and gives verbal reports of division activities and operations. Driver/Collections: Drives assigned collection route(s), performs trash removal including emptying, moving dumpsters; drives truck, operates controls and loads roadside and dumpster trash and delivers to landfill; learns specific solid waste routes as assigned; completes required records and forms.
