Snow plowing services are prioritized in three routes for emergency accesses and major arterial streets, minor arterial and collector streets, and all other residential streets. Plowing operations are usually ineffective until three to four inches of snow accumulates. Until this depth is reached, truck mounted sanding units maintain all priority routes. A sand and salt mixture is applied on hills, curves, signalized intersections and other known hazardous locations. The City also clears the snow from all City-owned parking lots and sidewalks. The clearing of sidewalks adjacent to private property is the responsibility of the owner, agent or occupant. The Streets Division maintains approximately 77 miles of streets within the Cody city limits.
