Kidz on the Move Summer 2016 May 31st to August 19th Faster, Higher, Stronger We’re GOING FOR THE GOLD this summer! ---PAGE BREAK--- I n this packet you’ll find all the information you need to prepare your children for our exciting summer day camp experience. Camp registration is NOW OPEN! Please read this packet completely, fill out the necessary forms & return them to the Rec Center BEFORE your children attend Kidz on the Move. Contact Amy Quick at [PHONE REDACTED] or [PHONE REDACTED] with any questions. NECESSARY FORMS TO COMPLETE AND RETURN: • PROGRAM ENROLLMENT SHEET (One Per Child!) - Camp this summer is 12 weeks long with the theme FASTER, HIGHER, STRONGER to commemorate the Summer Olympics in Rio. We’ll explore a variety of sports & cultures while also having fun with literacy, recreation & STEAM activities. • SIGNED GENERAL CAMP RELEASE WAIVER & CAMP PAYMENT AGREEMENT • REMEMBER TO BUY A FRIDAY MOVIE PASS AT THE REC CENTER FOR $50! Camps enjoy a kid- friendly movie each Friday afternoon at Big Horn Cinemas. Weekly movies are $6.50 without a summer pass. Drink & popcorn included with admission! Camp is open 7 AM to 5:30 PM (LIMITED supervision provided 7 to 7:30 AM), Monday through Friday, MAY 31st to AUGUST 19th. There will be NO Kidz on the Move on MONDAY, JULY 4th! Each day you can expect kids to come home tired & a little grubby after a full day of fun & being on the MOVE. Kids should wear comfortable clothes suitable for a variety of high-energy activities indoors & out. Below is a list of recommended items children should wear or bring each day: 1. Play clothes that can withstand the rigors of camp & a jacket for the chillier moments. 2. Tennis shoes or comfortable walking shoes (close-toed recommended!) Camps regularly wander from one adventure to the next & field trips usually require a lot of walking. 3. Wide-brimmed hat or other form of sun protection. 4. Lightweight rain gear. Even though we live in an arid climate, we still seem to get caught out in the rain from time to time. Please send your child prepared for ALL kinds of weather! 5. A backpack with daily necessities. 6. A NUTRITIOUS LUNCH = a healthy sandwich, fruits, veggies, snacks & water. Camp provides two snacks each day but campers are responsible for packing along their own lunch. 7. A WATER BOTTLE with child’s name on it. Water is VERY important to keep our campers healthy & hydrated during the hot summer months. 8. A swimsuit & towel for free swim on TUESDAY & FRIDAY afternoons. 9. Also, please apply sunscreen to children BEFORE camp. Staff will supply sunscreen & insect repellent as necessary & reapply throughout the day. If children have any sensitivities or allergies they should pack their own products to use at camp. (Guardians will sign a permission slip the first week of camp!) NEW CAMP BILLING STRUCTURE! This summer, to simplify & streamline camp billing, we are using a new punchcard system. At registration families will pay a $25 registration/materials fee to help cover camp t-shirts & other necessities. You will also purchase at least one punchcard good for any 10 days of camp for $170 ($17/day). These punchcards will be kept at camp & can be shared by family members. Any leftover balances will be applied to the family account for future programs or you can request a refund check after camp is finished. Each day when children are dropped off at camp an adult will initial & date the punchcard which will help families track their usage & have a better idea when to purchase additional punchcards. Families MUST have a punch available for children to attend camp! Daily camp passes also are available for $25/day & can be purchased at the Front desk. Families MUST present the pass to camp staff at check in! Please Note: Cody Recreation Foundation scholarships may be available for qualifying families, please inquire at the Front Desk. We hope this new system will help alleviate families from getting behind on payments & minimize staff time needed to track billing. Please contact Amy or Jessica at [PHONE REDACTED] with any questions or concerns. KIDZ ON THE MOVE 2016 FAMILY INFORMATION PACKET ---PAGE BREAK--- TWO Day Camps: We offer two day camps under the umbrella of Kidz on the Move to keep kids engaged & entertained in age-appropriate activities during summer vacation. EXPLORERZ introduces youth who completed Kindergarten‑2nd grade to the camp experience; ADVENTURERZ has kids who’ve finished 3rd ‑6th grade taking camp to the next level. Camp Structure: This summer we are offering 12 weeks of Kidz on the Move where we’ll get FASTER, HIGHER & STRONGER with our Olympic theme. Camp is a safe, structured & high energy option for school age kids where we'll focus on different sports & culture themed activities each day. Families are required to have days available on a punchcard ($170/10 days of camp) or pay a daily pass ($25) in order for children to attend. At initial registration, families should purchase at least one punchcard which can be shared by family members, plus pay a $25 registration fee per child to cover t-shirts & other camp necessities. Parents or responsible adults will check kids in & initial punchcards each day children attend camp. You will ONLY be charged for the days your child actually attends camp. Camp punchcards will allow families to better monitor their balances & any remaining punches will roll over throughout summer camp & unused balances can be used for ASAP or other programs during the school year. Families must have punches available or purchase additional cards prior to children attending camp! Weekly Activities & Field Trips: Regular activities include Sports Shorts (sports skills & drills), Full STEAM Ahead (science, technology, engineering, art & math), Lit is a Hit (library with Miss Holly), Going for the Gold (Olympic themed activities), Park Play, Friday at the Movies, Swimming & more! We’ll also welcome guest speakers & go on local field trips. Our full-day field trips change days this summer & camps load the Rec bus each WEDNESDAY to explore the Wonders of Wyoming. Field trip release forms will be available the week prior to each field trip for parents to sign & are due MONDAYS BY 5:30 PM. Kids should wear their camp shirts on field trip days & families should be at the Rec Center by 8:15 AM each WEDNESDAY so we can leave for our adventures. Due to the long distance travel required on these days, we will not return to town until 5 PM or later & some excursions may require even later return times. There will be NO alternative programming offered on these days. This summer we will revisit some of our favorite trips in Wyoming as well as add a few new outings; a detailed trip schedule will be available the first week of camp. Friday Fun: Friday mornings camps alternate going to Mini Golf or enjoying Park Play before coming together for lunch at a local park. Each Friday afternoon camps head to Big Horn Cinemas for Friday at the Movies before returning to the Rec Center to close out our week & go swimming or have some gym fun. (Be sure to purchase a summer movie pass at the Recreation Center for $50, a great savings over the $6.50 per movie rate!) Swim Lessons: Swim lessons are available to camp families at an added expense. If you would like your children to take part in these lessons, please sign them up in the 8 to 8:30 AM time slot & we’ll accommodate your needs. Registration & payment must be made at the Recreation Center. Swim lessons fill on a first-come basis & we recommend registering your children early for these popular programs. Additional Camp Specifics: Camps are based out of the Paul Stock Aquatic & Recreation Center (1402 Heart Mountain Street) from 7 AM to 5:30 PM, Monday-Friday. Staff provides limited supervision from 7 to 7:30 AM. A parent or guardian must sign kids in each morning at the far end of the Rec Center hallway. Please DO NOT drop children off before 7 AM or when staff is not present. Following a brief group activity, snack & Morning Motion, we head out on our daily adventures. Most afternoons we rendezvous back at the Rec Center in time for our afternoon snack at 3 PM. Staff provides two healthy snacks each day as well as all programming materials, transportation & instruction at no extra charge. Campers should pack a healthy lunch & water bottle every day. The bulk of camp programming takes place from 8:30 AM to 3:30 PM. Parents or guardians must sign kids out by 5:30 PM at the Rec Center. If a child is not picked up on time a late fee may be assessed which must be paid before the child can return to camp. Camp Staff & Junior Counselors: All camp staff are college age or older & extremely motivated to work & play with your kids all summer long! Our daily adult-to-child ratio generally exceeds national standards & recommendations. Again this summer we also offer a Junior Counselor program for youth in 6th to 8th grades who previously attended camp. Interested youth should contact Amy Quick at amyq@cityofcody. com or [PHONE REDACTED] for more information & an application. KIDZ ON THE MOVE 2016 ---PAGE BREAK--- KIDZ ON THE MOVE 2016 RULES OF THE ROAD K idz on the Move is dedicated to providing local families a positive, active summer outlet for school-age youth. We take pride in our highly qualified & enthusiastic staff who have day-to-day contact with your kids. We encourage parent & community participation & welcome you to share your areas of expertise. This provides an opportunity for parents to see what kids are doing & learning throughout the summer & helps build positive relationships. It is the parent/guardian’s responsibility to make sure kids arrive at the facility safely & to inform staff if the child will not attend camp on an expected day. Voicemail or text messages may be left on the camp cell phones: [PHONE REDACTED] (Explorerz) or [PHONE REDACTED] (Adventurerz). Pick up daily is by 5:30 PM at the Rec Center. If a child is not picked up on time a late fee may be assessed of $10 per child per 15 minutes late. This fee is payable at the time of pick up & must be paid before children can return to camp. If a child is not picked up by 6 PM, staff will call emergency contacts to pick up the child immediately. Information concerning the child’s whereabouts will be left at the Recreation Center front desk. If all other resources have been exhausted, staff will notify Department of Family Services or local law enforcement by 6:30 PM. Camp staff will not transport youth. To insure safety, camp staff will only release campers to individuals authorized on enrollment forms. Notification of any changes regarding child pick up should be made to staff as soon as possible. If someone unknown to staff is picking up a child we will request a photo ID. In the event of minor injury, First Aid/CPR trained staff will administer limited first aid & complete an incident report. If the condition is serious, staff will notify parents & ask them to pick up the child. In cases of extreme emergency, staff will call 911. In the event a child is referred to a family physician or emergency room, the program is not responsible for any costs incurred. Children who are ill may not be accepted at camp. Anyone exhibiting the following conditions should not attend day camp: contagious disease, fever, vomiting, diarrhea, inflamed or matted eyes, sore throat, severe cold or undiagnosed skin rash. Camp staff works with kids to build a culture of respect, foster positive relationships & strive toward an environment that encourages teamwork. All campers & staff are expected to respect & cooperate with each other, help one another & always be willing to let someone else go first. At the beginning of the summer, staff will outline our Camp Road Rules to help support daily routines. These boundaries & expectations will ensure a healthy & respectful environment for everybody. Both camps will work as cooperative units, creating a Home Court Advantage for all! Our goal is to provide a setting where SAFETY is a priority; everyone feels a sense of BELONGING & VALUE; & we all have the COURAGE to try new things & encourage each other. Everyone takes responsibility for appropriate behavior & must be reasonable in their choices & expectations. Staff reserves the right to ask any child who is acting inappropriately or without respect for others to leave camp. No refunds will be given in these circumstances. I promise to do my part to promote a Home Court Advantage at Kidz on the Move this summer. • I will make SAFETY my #1 priority at camp. • I will do my best to make sure everyone feels a sense of BELONGING. • I will VALUE myself, my leaders & my fellow campers. • I will demonstrate COURAGE to try new things, encourage others & be a part of this camp community.
