Cody Police Department Fireworks Safety Tips Cody City Ordinance 5-5-1 states: It shall be unlawful for any person to use, discharge, shoot, fire, light or detonate any firecrackers or other fireworks or pyrotechnics of any kind whatever, excepting caps and cap guns, within the city. Obey local laws Purchase fireworks from reliable dealers Always read and follow label directions Use fireworks outdoors only Have an adult present Have a water source or fire extinguisher handy Light only one firework at a time Never throw or point fireworks at other people or pets Never relight a “dud” firework Alcohol and fireworks do not mix – have a “designated shooter” The “shooter” should wear safety glasses Spectators should observe from a safe distance Never carry fireworks in a pocket Never shoot off fireworks in metal or glass containers Never put any part of your body over the firework when lighting it. Never try to alter or combine fireworks Never hold a lighted firework in your hand Dispose of fireworks properly by soaking them in water before placing them in a trash receptacle
