To formulate and legislatively adopt: - An affirmed and/or renewed set of goals and objectives providing a realistic vision of the future of Emerson Park in the context of the larger County park system, and - A feasible approach to achieving those goals and objectives over the next 5 years 2. To design and implement a public participatory planning process that can be used as a model for other components of the County park system Major Goal Deliver cost effective year-round park and recreation facilities and programs that are attractive, well-maintained, accessible, protective of natural resources, respectful of the park’s cultural history, and continue to provide memorable experiences for visitors of all ages from both inside and outside Cayuga County for many years to come. ---PAGE BREAK--- Goals Access and Circulation Enhance access to the park - Improve the design of ingress and egress for vehicles as well as pedestrians - Publicize the availability of access via public transportation - Improve access from Auburn High School property Park Destinations Provide a year-round balance of expanded and improved uses, areas, and facilities for people of all ages including: - Playground facilities for children - Facilities for organized sports - Facilities for swimming, boating, and other water activities - Passive recreation areas (picnic areas, benches, walkways) - Winter recreation facilities x-country ski trails) - Areas and facilities for family as well as adult, non-family activities - Varied and diverse food and beverage concessions - Large-party friendly areas and amenities (available for reservation) Environment Protect, restore, and enhance the park’s natural environmental features - Perform environmental assessments of open, vacant areas - Mitigate stream bank and lake shore erosion - Maintain healthy tree cover prevent and mitigate impacts of the Emerald Ash Borer) - Identify and mitigate threats to water quality Maintenance, management, and operations Protect the community’s investment in Emerson Park by developing a multi-year maintenance, management, and operations plan and funding the labor and materials needed to implement the plan. Maintain opportunities for the programming of activities in various venues Assess sewer system needs and improve the system where necessary
