Cayuga County Health and Human Services 160 Genesee Street Auburn, NY 13021 For Immediate Release: Tuesday November 26, 2013 Contact: Deanna Hoey, Public Health Educator Phone: [PHONE REDACTED] Fax: [PHONE REDACTED] Nurse Family Partnership - 6 month update Cayuga County Health Department is pleased to announce that it is celebrating the six month mark of Nurse-Family Partnership, an evidence-based community health program that helps transform the lives of eligible mothers pregnant with their first child. Nurse-Family Partnership (NFP) is a voluntary program that provides nurse home visitation services to low-income, first-time mothers. Nurses begin home visits early in the mother’s pregnancy and continue visitation until the child’s second birthday. Nurses provide support, education and counseling on health, behavioral and self-sufficiency issues. NFP is one the most rigorously tested program of its kind. Mothers and children who have participated in the program have consistently demonstrated significantly improved prenatal health, increased maternal employment, improved child school readiness, reduced involvement in crime, and less child abuse, neglect and injuries. There are currently seventeen young mothers and two infants participating in the Cayuga County Nurse-Family Partnership program.
