Special Meeting, March 22, 2018 1 Town of Niles SPECIAL TOWN BOARD MEETING TO HIRE CODE ENFORCEMENT OFFICER March 22, 2018 Niles Town Hall PRESENT: Joan Jayne, Supervisor Steven Cuddeback, Councilman Bernard Juli, Deputy Supervisor Joseph MacDuffee, Councilman Clarence Edmonds, Councilman Tiffany Landis, Town Clerk OTHERS PRESENT: A. Meeting called to order at 6:30 pm by Supervisor Jayne B. Pledge of Allegiance C. Open floor to the public No comments D. Resolution to Hire J. Patrick Doyle as Code Enforcement Officer Discussion ensued about salary. The original offer for was $9,000 a year. The counter offer was for $14,500 a year. Previous Code Enforcement Officer's salary was $17,100 annually. Mr. Doyle is the Code Enforcement Officer for the Towns of Owasco, Locke, Genoa, Venice and the Village of Moravia. Councilman Cuddeback stated that he didn't expect Mr. Doyle to accept the $9,000 offer but he wanted to establish a baseline. Supervisor Jayne stated that if she hadn't of called Mr. Doyle he would not have called back. Mr. Doyle has his own laptop which can fax and he has his own wifi. Mr. Doyle will be on a 6-month probationary period. Mr. Doyle has agreed to work Thursday night hours when the Clerk's office is open. Mr. Doyle will also attend Board meetings. Councilman Edmonds stated that Mr. Doyle had the most experience of all the applicants. Councilman MacDuffee stated that he didn't know much about Mr. Doyle. ---PAGE BREAK--- Special Meeting, March 22, 2018 2 RESOLUTION #2018-47 TO HIRE J. PATRICK DOYLE AS TOWN'S CODE ENFORCEMENT OFFICER AT A SALARY OF $14,500.00 WITH A 6-MONTH PROBATIONARY PERIOD. On a motion by Councilman Cuddeback, seconded by Councilman Edmonds, the following resolution was ADOPTED Ayes Cuddeback, Edmonds, Jayne Nays Abstain MacDuffee, Juli RESOLVED, that the Town of Niles board adopt RESOLUTION #2018-47 Councilman MacDuffee and Councilman Juli stated that they didn't vote because they don't know enough about Mr. Doyle.
