1 Cayuga County Health and Human Services 160 Genesee Street Auburn, NY 13021 For Immediate Release: Wednesday February 19, 2014 Contact: Deanna Hoey, M.S., B.S. Public Health Educator Phone number: [PHONE REDACTED] Fax number: [PHONE REDACTED] National Children’s Dental Health Month The Cayuga County Health Department implemented the Brush to Crush Cavities Program in partnership with Cayuga Community Health Network, East Hill Family Medical, Inc. and the Auburn Enlarged City School District over four years ago. The Brush to Crush Cavities Committee continues to promote oral health education, screenings and treatment services to students at Genesee Elementary School. This school year we expanded the Brush to Crush Cavities Program to include Casey Park Elementary School. The Program takes a comprehensive look at the oral health screenings of students in grades K – 6. Oral health education is also provided to all students in grades K – 6. Education consists of demonstrating proper brushing and flossing techniques and the importance of taking good care of their teeth. Providing oral health supplies for use at home is essential, but an added bonus was that Brush to Crush Cavities works with teachers and school administrators to offer a brushing opportunity to students during the school day. For February we have kicked off a month-long school-wide brushing challenge for students. With the generous donation from the Henry Schein Cares Foundation, we received 1,008 oral health kits which included a toothbrush, toothpaste and floss in each kit. These kits were given to students in grades K-6 at both elementary schools as part of the Brush to Crush Cavities Program.
