Temporary Sign Regulations Temporary Sign Regulations ATTENTION BUSINESS OWNERS, MANAGERS, and VENDORS Banners: No more than one banner, max size 32 square feet for each nonresidential use; must be securely attached to outside of building. For banners in downtown (DBD), a registration permit is required, at no cost, and such banners shall be displayed for a max 30 days. Curb Signs: These signs, also known as “bootleg” or “trailblazer” signs, are ONLY allowed on weekends from Friday 3:00 PM to Sunday 11:59 PM; max height 3 feet; max size 4 square feet; must be out of public right-of- way on private property with owner’s permission; only one sign per 500 feet of road frontage; signs not removed before Sunday 11:59 PM constitute a nuisance and may be removed and disposed of without notice. Flags or insignias, ground-based or roof-mounted: Temporary flags/insignias max 30 square feet in area. For each lot, one ground-based or one roof-mounted flag or insignia allowed and shall be out of public right-of- way. Max height ground-based flag 15 feet; max height roof-mounted flag is 4 feet above roof line of building. Hot Air Balloons or Inflatable Advertising Devices: These signs are ONLY allowed during temporary events (permit is required). A temporary event lasts no more than 14 days, no more than one time per calendar year. Pole banners: No more than two vertical pole banners allowed to be attached per existing light pole or utility pole. Max size is 20 square feet in area; max width is two and one-half feet and max height 8 feet; max display height 25 feet measured from top edge of banner to ground; minimum setback 10 feet from public right-of-way. Sandwich board or Sidewalk Signs: No more than one such sign allowed per business; must be placed no farther than 5 feet from main entrance; can be no larger in size than 6 square feet. Streamers and Pennants: Allowed but must be set back at least 25 feet from edge of street pavement or out of public right-of-way, whichever is farthest from street; maximum height 25 feet. Trailer Signs: These signs are ONLY allowed during temporary events (permit is required). A temporary event lasts no more than 14 days, no more than one time per calendar year. Twirler and/or curb-cut signs held or worn: Signs held or worn (including costumes) by a person for advertising, providing info about, or promoting a business or other activity are permitted with limitations: 1. Signs shall be allowed in nonresidential zoning districts only. 2. Signs cannot exceed a maximum size of 10 square feet. 3. Only one sign for each parcel of land and/or tenant per multi-tenant center. 4. Signs shall not be held/displayed or located on public right-of-way without a temporary event permit. 5. Signs shall not be located within twenty-five (25) feet of another such sign. 6. Sign bearers shall not use bull horns, amplified music, whistles, or other devices. 7. Sign bearers shall not stand on any object, including boxes, ladders, stilts and roller skates. 8. Signs may not utilize any form of illumination, including flashing, blinking or rotating lights. 9. Signs shall not use attachments, including balloons, ribbons, speakers, or flags. 10. Signs shall be held/worn/balanced at all times and shall not twirl/rotate unless on private property.
