BUTTE-SILVER BOW EXAMINING LAND SURVEYOR REVIEW PROCESS CERTIFICATE OF SURVEYS AND PLATS All certificates of surveys shall be submitted in electronic format (.pdf is recommended or preferred, other format on approval) to the Butte-Silver Bow (B-SB) County Land Records Department for review by an Examining Land Surveyor. The certificate of survey must be accompanied by the subdivision exemption approval. The B-SB Land Records Department will be responsible for having the certificate of survey reviewed by the Examining Land Surveyor. The Butte-Silver Bow Land Records Department shall retain a list of pre-qualified Examining Land Surveyors. Certificate of surveys shall be assigned to an Examining Land Surveyor on a rotating basis, based on availability The basis of the review for errors and omissions in calculations and drafting by the Examining Land Surveyor are the established, rules set forth by the Montana Subdivision and Platting Act, the Uniform Standards for Monumentation, and the Uniform Standards for Certificates of Survey. These review requirements will also need to follow the regulations, resolutions, standards and planning ordinances adopted by the City & County of Butte-Silver Bow for the review of Certificates of Survey. A full review for errors and omissions in calculations and drafting of the submitted electronic copy (.pdf format) will be conducted by the Examining Land Surveyor. The Examining Land Surveyor will have fourteen (14) days to complete the review. At the conclusion of the review, a comment letter will be forwarded to the land surveyor in charge of the survey and to the Land Records Department showing the required corrections if any, from the Examining Surveyor. The land surveyor in charge will resubmit an electronic copy (.pdf format) of the corrected COS, to the ELS. If no re-check or corrections are required or requested, all drawings necessary to fulfill the Uniform Standard’s requirements for the filing of a Plat or a Certificate of Survey, referred to as a “record set” by the City & County of Butte-Silver Bow, shall be submitted to the B-SB Land Records Department for final review along with the document/survey approval by the ELS, and any deeds required to complete the purpose of survey. A “record set” recognized by the City and County of Butte-Silver Bow consists of two reproducible copies on stable base polyester film (3mil or heavier) utilizing black ink (no other color). The record set is required to include the dated signature and seal of the surveyor responsible for the survey. The record set must be legibly drawn with permanent ink or produced by a process guaranteeing a permanent record and must be 18 inches by 24 inches, or 24 inches by 36 inches overall, and include a 1 ½ inches margin on the left binding side. A poorly drawn or illegible record set or a record set of insufficient quality to assure acceptability for micro-filming/scanning will be rejected. When a record set is submitted, it will be compared to the ELS reviewed electronic copy.
