DRAFT VISION STATEMENT Greeley Neighborhood July 20, 2010 WHAT IS VISION? What do you want to be? What do you value most about your neighborhood? What is the one thing, you think everyone in the neighborhood needs to believe? Vision statements identify broad principles upon which the neighborhood plan is based. It represents values that the neighborhood deems as important enough to preserve for future generations. It describes the neighborhood’s desired character, key features and amenities. EXAMPLES: Heights Neighborhood of Billings: “The Heights: promoting growth and opportunities for the neighborhood of a lifetime.” Dubuque Historic District: “We want to create a vibrant Historic Millwork District that provides a diverse, user‐friendly environment for residents, businesses, workers and visitors. The district will enhance the quality of life in the Dubuque area and create an active, spirited neighborhood and cultural destination for the city, its residents, and visitors.” West Walker Neighborhood (IL): “The collective vision for West Walker is to retain the high quality of life residents enjoy in a neighborhood distinguished by century‐old architecture, an abundance of single family homes, tree‐lined streets and relatively low congestion. Through the vision process West Walker hopes to preserve and enhance the character of the neighborhood as a safe and friendly place to grow up, live well, raise children or retire.” SUGGESTED FOR GREELEY: “The Greeley Neighborhood embraces a strong sense of community and pride through neighborly respect for property and each other. The former Greeley School property is at the heart of the neighborhood and serves as a positive focal point for citizens of all ages to socialize and play. Residential properties are well‐kept and infill opportunities are encouraged. The neighborhood’s strong historical social cohesiveness will continue to be the envy of the community.”
