Getting Started With OverDrive and your Kindle, Fire, or Kindle app It’s easy to get help right on the website: http://anytime.lib.overdrive.com/ Your Kindle can use books from OverDrive in the Kindle format only. You can read Kindle books on a Kindle, a Kindle Fire, or a Kindle reading app on any tablet or computer. On OverDrive, those books are marked with this icon or labeled “Kindle Book” (as below). Note: on a Kindle reader only, you must do the steps below on a computer. 1. Have your library card handy to sign in to Overdrive. 2. Find a book you want that is offered in the Kindle format. If it says “Request this Item,” there are no available copies now; you can put it on hold. If it says “Add to Cart,” you can check this book out right now. 3. Go to Check Out; click the ‘Get for Kindle’ button. The Amazon website will be opened and you’ll need to sign in. 4. Select a Kindle device or Kindle reading app, and click ‘Get library book.’ 5. Sync your Kindle via WiFi to download the book (3G won’t work). 6. Enjoy! Can I return my book early? Yes. On the Kindle Store website, under ‘Your Kindle Library,’ choose Actions and select ‘Return this book.’ How can I easily find Kindle-format books that are available for checkout right away? Go to Advanced Search. Specify the format and check “Only show titles with copies available.” Click on the Search button. ---PAGE BREAK--- Getting Started With OverDrive and your e-reader It’s easy to get help right on the website: http://anytime.lib.overdrive.com/ How to check books out from OverDrive 1. First, you need to download a program to your home computer (PC or Mac). It’s called Adobe Digital Editions. 2. Authorize the program on your computer (a one-time step; you’ll need to set up an account with Adobe). For help and download links, go to http://help.overdrive.com/MyHelpMH25. 3. Now download the Overdrive Media Console to your computer. This requires Windows Media Player 9 or above, and may ask you to approve an automatic se- curity update the first time you download a book. Now you’re ready to check out books. 4. On your computer or e-device, have your library card handy and sign in to Overdrive. 5. Find a book you want that is offered in the correct format. You can download either ePub or PDF e-books to use on your e-reader (or on e-reading apps on any tablet or computer). On Overdrive, those books are marked with these icons: Which format do I want? Either will work. With EPUB, you may change the font size of your eBook, and the text automati- cally reflows within the display screen. EPUB is perfect for creating an instant large print eBook, or for reading on an eBook reader. In PDF eBooks the text and graphics remain fixed. For larger print, you may zoom in on the text. PDF is ideal for eBooks with many images such as picture books and graphic novels. 6. If the book is labeled “Request this Item:” there are no available copies now; you can put it on hold. If it says “Add to Cart:” you can check this book out right now. 7. Go to Check Out. Once you’ve checked the book out, another screen will load; click on ‘Download.’ Now the book is on your computer. 8. Transfer the book to your e-Reader via USB cord. How do I transfer eBooks to my eBook reader? 1. Open Adobe Digital Editions. 2. Connect the eBook reader to your computer with the USB cord. A link for your reader is displayed under 'Bookshelves'. 3. Click on the Adobe eBook you want to transfer. 4. Drag and drop the Adobe eBook to the link for your eBook reader under 'Bookshelves'. The eBook is transferred to your eBook reader. 5. Disconnect the eBook reader. 6. Enjoy! (over) ---PAGE BREAK--- Can I return my book early? Your books will expire on their due date. But you can return them early to be able to check more out. 1. Open Adobe Digital Editions. 2. Select the 'Library View' icon (in the upper left corner). The Adobe Digital Editions library is displayed. 3. Under the 'Bookshelves' heading, select 'Borrowed'. 4. Click the eBook you want to return. 5. Click the 'Item Options' arrow (in the upper left corner of the selected eBook). 6. Select 'Return Borrowed Item'. 7. Click 'Return' to verify that you want to return the title. The eBook is removed from your account and returned to the library collection. How can I easily find Adobe-format books that are available for checkout right away? Go to Advanced Search. Set Format to PDF or ePub, check the box at the bottom, and click Search.
