Annual Report 2007 Burlington Library Foundation 820 East Washington Avenue Burlington, WA 98233 Patrick Barta Photography Our Mission The Burlington Public Library Foundation’s mission is to foster community support for the Library, its Board, and its Staff. The Foundation shall also solicit, receive, manage, and disburse corporate and individual gifts and grants for the enhancement of library facilities, materials, services, and programs. ---PAGE BREAK--- Burlington Library Foundation Accomplishments 2007 Establishing the Foundation In 2007 the Burlington Library Foundation received $60,930 from 80 donors, bringing the total donations received to date to $96,804. An additional $45,300 has been pledged, for a grand total of $142,104. In addition, the Foundation received an in-kind donation of one year’s landscaping maintenance. Celebrating the New Library Building On May 12, 2007 the Foundation sponsored a Preview Party for donors, giving them an opportunity to see the new library ahead of the official opening. Public Art The Foundation accepted two donations of art in 2007: Toh Tactic, a Tony Bloom sculpture donated by Pat and Larry Edwards, and a hand-made quilt donated by local fabric artist Heather Waldron. In addition, the Foundation purchased The Guide, an owl sculpture by Anacortes artist Leo Osborne. Community Programming On February 18 the Foundation sponsored a presentation of The Life and Times of General George E. Pickett, by Mike Vouri of the National Park Service on San Juan Island. The program was attended by more than 80 people. Setting Future Goals Now that the library is open, the Foundation’s focus has shifted to more long-term goals, including raising funds to establish an endowment for Collection Development, Programming, and Technology. The members of the Foundation also plan to develop a program to encourage bequests and other planned giving opportunities. Yes!
