Burley Public Library Summer 2019 Library Intern A temporary position Work hours includes some days, some evenings, and some weekends – about 15 hours per week for an 8-week period. Delivers high degree of patron service. Works with library staff and with patrons to meet information needs. Reports to: Young Adult Librarian Job Summary: This position consists of learning and performing general library duties and program activities, emphasizes library services to and for youth. Special Requirements: Must be able to lift at least 40 pounds, bend, stoop, lift, carry items on stairs. Specific Job Duties or Tasks: ▪ Serves patrons in a courteous manner ▪ Assists staff and patrons with information needs ▪ Maintains confidentiality of all patrons’ records and transactions ▪ Participates in library programs providing assistance with educational games, reading materials, Science Technology Engineering and Math (STEM) activities, and providing a positive experience for library users ▪ Assists patrons with public computers, online card catalog, Internet, E-Mail ▪ Assists patrons with handheld devices including tablets and smartphones ▪ Assists staff in opening and closing library according to established procedures ▪ Supports circulation desk by filing library materials, assisting patrons with copy machine and reference questions, recording statistical data, may answer phone ▪ Shelves books according to classification system ▪ Reads, straightens and dust shelves as necessary ▪ Works with different types of media including microfilm, DVD, and digital ▪ Organizes library and donated materials for Friends of the Library group ▪ Provides support to Friends of the Library group ▪ Monitors materials for damage and routes for repair ▪ Performs clerical duties, typing, keyboarding, photocopying, telephoning ▪ Keeps computers, printers, and copy machine clean, free of dust and stocked with paper ▪ Keeps library tidy by washing windows, dusting, maintaining restrooms, etc. ▪ Attends trainings and workshops as necessary ▪ Performs related duties and responsibilities as needed This temporary position is provided through a workforce development grant provided by the Library Services Technology Act, a division of the Institute of Museum and Library Services and funded by the Idaho Commission for Libraries.
