Code Enforcement Officer City of Burley 2024 Code Enforcement Officer Department: Building Reports to: Building-Community Services Director Pay Grade 18 Date: 2024 FLSA Status: Part Time Non-Exempt Salary Range $20.00 to $27.00 JOB DESCRIPTION Summary/Objective Under general supervision of building-community service director, performs patrols in the City looking for violations of City ordinances related to weed citations as authorized by ordinance, sidewalk snow removal and public nuisances. Issues notices and infractions for violation of weeds, junk and nuisance code violations as well as impound abandoned vehicles and those vehicles parked on city streets in violation of parking ordinances. Essential Functions: ▪ Prepares reports, completes records and various forms such as daily activity sheets, receipts for fees received, citations, and investigative reports. ▪ Ability to work well under pressure, meeting multiple and sometimes competing deadlines. ▪ Receives, investigates, and processes noxious weed, junk, snow removal and other public nuisance reports. ▪ Ability to use telephone, computer, printer (office equipment) proficiently. ▪ Ability to calendar daily work events and “log” daily activities. ▪ Basic knowledge of legal system in order to forward legal action recommendations to City Attorney. ▪ Works closely with department staff, City Administrator and Mayor. ▪ Proper English usage, grammar, and spelling. Work Environment This position primarily works outdoors, in all types of weather, and in potentially hazardous environments, which may involve exposure to dangerous chemicals. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, stand, walk, talk, and hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus. Position Type/ Expect Hours of Work This is a part-time position. Days and hours of work are varied Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Travel Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some out-of-area and overnight travel may be expected. Required Education and Experience High School Diploma or Equivalent. Must have a valid Idaho driver’s license and have a good driving record. Preferred Education and Experience High School Diploma or Equivalent. Must have a valid Idaho driver’s license and have a good driving record. Must obtain additional certification for code enforcement (ie: special deputy via Sheriff.) No domestic violence or felony convictions. Knowledge of noxious weeds, procedures for junk areas is beneficial.
