Street Worker City of Burley March 2019 Street Worker Department: Streets Reports to: Street Operations Manager Pay Grade 20 Date: March 2019 FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Salary Range $16.08 to $18.67 JOB DESCRIPTION Summary/Objective Under direction of the Street Operations Manager Performs tasks involving physical labor and the operation of dump trucks, snow plowing, sanding and street sweeping in the maintenance of the city streets. The position may operate a variety of hand and power tools in repairing, cleaning and maintaining city streets. Essential Functions:  Performs a variety of tasks involving strenuous manual labor in street projects; performs manual work in preparing surfaces for paving.  Assists in patching asphalt with hot and cold mix. Excavates and fills trenches and ditches.  Hauling dirt and gravel physically and with the use of the dump truck.  Seal coating streets in summer  Maintenance, repair and cleaning catch basins and storm drain work.  Asphalt overlay preparation  Crack clean-out and sealing  Painting of crosswalks and misc. parking and parking lots.  Installing and repairing of street signs  Sanding and plowing of streets and airport runways.  Hauling and removing snow  Helping with tree removal  Operating loaders, sanders, and equipment  Cold patching holes in winter months  Setting up traffic control for street repairs  Knowledge of equipment maintenance and upkeep  Miscellaneous duties for other departments  Ensures that proper safety and incident reporting procedures are followed. Work Environment While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration. The employee is frequently exposed to a variety of extreme conditions. The noise level in the work environment can be loud. The position regularly works near moving mechanical parts and in outside conditions that include inclement weather, heat and humidity, and exposure to dust and asphalt. ---PAGE BREAK--- Street Worker City of Burley March 2019 Physical Demands The physical demand described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. This position lifts heavy objects up to 50 lbs. multiple times per shift, walks and stands for long periods of time and performs strenuous physical labor under adverse field conditions. The employee lifts, pushes, pulls or carries objects; uses abdominal and lower back muscles to provide support over time without fatigue. The position requires good manual dexterity (hand, hand with arm, two hands) and multilimb coordination. The position requires the ability to quickly move arms and legs. The employee must have excellent stamina. Position Type/ Expect Hours of Work This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 6:00 AM to 3:00 PM, 40 hours per week. This position frequently requires long hours and weekend work. Travel Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some out-of-area and overnight travel may be expected. Required Education and Experience Equivalent to a High School Diploma and two years of driving experience. The ability to acquire CDL within six months of hire. Preferred Education and Equivalent to a High School Diploma and two years of driving experience. The ability to acquire CDL within six months of hire.
