City of Burley 2024 Journeyman Electrician/ Electrical Inspector Department: Electric Reports to: Electrical Superintendent Pay Grade 39 Date: 2024 FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Salary Range $25.77 - $38.00 JOB DESCRIPTION Summary/Objective Install and maintain the electrical wiring and equipment in city buildings while working under the general supervision of the Electrical Superintendent. Inspection of electrical work being done by homeowners and Contractors within City of Burley’s city limits. Essential Functions: Install and repair electrical conduit, wiring, and equipment in city buildings and grounds. Ensure installations comply with electrical codes. Inspect electrical systems to determine whether repairs are needed and how to complete the repairs. Design electrical system for city buildings and grounds. Ability to read blueprints. Extensive knowledge of electrical systems and wiring. Ability to use hand tools and power tools. Proficient in use of test meters and other diagnostic equipment. Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills. Performing basic maintenance and repairs on electric equipment. Keep accurate records and reports of work performed. Understand and follow oral and written instructions. Communicate effectively. Physical demands, see physical demands of job description. Work with line crew as a groundman. Inspect Residential wiring installations. Inspect Commercial/Industrial wiring installations. Answer Electrical code questions. Work Environment This position primarily works outdoors, in all types of weather, and in potentially hazardous environments. ---PAGE BREAK--- City of Burley 2024 Physical Demands The physical demand described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Requires the ability to exert a considerable amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects and to stoop, crouch, work prone to reach work, climb and lift in the performance of manual labor; to operate a variety of tools, equipment and vehicles; to work around electrical equipment in a safe manner. Prolonged periods standing, kneeling, bending, and climbing ladders or scaffolding. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at a time. Tasks require color and visual perception and discrimination, as well as oral communications ability. Position Type/ Expect Hours of Work This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM and 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Frequent evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand. Ability to apart of the on-call rotation respond to afterhours outages, emergencies or other situations within 20 minutes. Travel Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some out-of-area and overnight travel may be expected. Required Education and Experience Equivalent to a High School Diploma. Must have an Idaho CDL Class A Driver’s license within six months of employment and have a satisfactory driving record. Must demonstrate safe work practices. Hold a valid Journeyman Electrical License and have at least 2 years of experience as a journeyman. Must have an Idaho Journeyman’s License within six months of employment. Obtain Electrical Inspector Licenses, residential and commercial, must have both within the first year of employment. Preferred Education and Experience Equivalent to a High School Diploma. Learn the operating principles, methods and materials, and skillful performance of troubleshooting, diagnosing, testing, repairing, performing preventive maintenance, modifying of electrical and high voltage electrical systems. Idaho Journeyman Electrical License with at least 2 years of experience as a journeyman. Electrical Inspector Residential License and Electrical Inspector Commercial License. Additional Eligibility Qualifications Must maintain insurability under the City’s vehicle operator’s insurance policy. Experience in the repair of electrical equipment and experience in public relations.
