City of Burley December 2020 Library Intern Department: Library Reports to: Children/Young Adult Librarian Pay Grade: 3 Date: December 2020 FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Salary Range: $7.25 - $9.73 JOB DESCRIPTION Summary/Objective Under direction of the Children/Young Adult Librarian, this position performs the full range of circulation desk functions which includes services to patrons and performs other duties as assigned. Essential Functions  Greets visitors to library. Provides exemplary customer service.  Assists library patrons in use of library services and materials.  Charges library materials in and out at the circulation desk and inspects for damage.  Performs accurate library shelving by regularly shelf-reading and re-shelving of materials  Provides support with library program preparation and implementation, as directed.  Prepares materials to promote use of library.  May help with tutoring of younger students.  Perform other tasks as assigned.  Work in other areas as assigned.  Monitors library to assure safe, clean, and adequate library environment for patrons. Work Environment While performing the duties of this library environment job, the employee will be continually moving, standing, walking, bending, squatting, use of stairs, and reaching in multiple directions (up to 90% of the shift). Must be able to maintain a professional demeanor while dealing with customer behaviors such as children crying or teenage activities. Physical Demands The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of the job, the employee is regularly required to walk, move, stand, sit, bend, twist, talk and hear to attend to customers and children. The employee must also stoop or squat to locate and read spine labels for materials shelved at floor level, and reach, read, and lift materials in multiple directions and levels, including overhead. The employee is required to regularly input data and to read information from computer monitors. The employee must regularly lift or move library materials and periodically lift and move boxes of books, copy paper boxes, or file boxes weighing 40 lbs. ---PAGE BREAK--- City of Burley December 2020 Position Type / Expect Hours of Work This is a part-time position. Hours worked per week is 6 to 9 hours. Shifts include some mornings, some evenings, and some Saturdays. Hours of operation are 9:30am to 7:00pm and vary Monday through Saturday. Periodically employees are asked to attend special meetings which usually last 1 to 2 hours. Travel Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some out-of-area and overnight travel may be expected. Required Education and Experience Some high school education. High School Transcript is required. Bilingual is preferred but not required. Additional Eligibility Qualifications Basic library and office practices and procedures, including filing and operation of Windows software environment, Excel spreadsheet, computer entry, word processing, phones, fax, scanner, and copy machines and understanding a database environment. Correct English usage, including spelling, grammar, and punctuation. Correct Spanish usage, including spelling, grammar, and punctuation a plus. Able to meet special requirements for confidentiality. Time flexibility to accommodate different work shifts highly desirable.
