Sanitation Driver City of Burley January 2019 Sanitation Driver Department: Sanitation Reports to: Sanitation Manager Pay Grade 13 Date: January 2019 FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Salary Range $18.00 JOB DESCRIPTION Summary/Objective Under direction of the Sanitation Manager Performs tasks of collecting and disposing municipal solid waste within the City of Burley and to perform other duties as assigned. Essential Functions: ▪ Drives garbage collection truck for the collection and disposal of (MSW) and operation and maintenance of related equipment; ▪ Observes operations involving route scheduling and related activities and suggest improvements; ▪ Observes safety and training practices in accordance with OSHA requirements, City and Department goals; ▪ Will work doing alley cleanup and aids in the enforcement of the City’s junk ordinance; ▪ Works efficiently to insure proper and timely completion of routes; ▪ Operates various types of heavy equipment during times of manpower shortages. ▪ Performs minor maintenance duties on garbage trucks such as gassing, checking oil and greasing to ensure the operational readiness of vehicles. ▪ Performs the walk around of the truck before and after each route is run. ▪ Loads truck with tools and equipment necessary to accomplish the garbage pickup function. ▪ Trims bushes and trees on alleyways, and repairs ruts and holes to maintain them safe for the public and sanitation trucks. ▪ Knowledge of equipment maintenance and upkeep ▪ OSHA & DOT requirements ▪ Miscellaneous duties for other departments ▪ Ensures that proper safety and incident reporting procedures are followed. Brings problems to the attention of Sanitation Manager. ▪ Exercising sound independent judgement within general policy guidelines. ▪ Establishing and maintain effective working relationship with those contacted in the course of the workday. Computer Knowledge Supervisory Responsibility This position has no supervisory responsibilities. Work Environment While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, foul odors, moving mechanical parts and vibration. The employee is frequently exposed to a variety of extreme conditions. The noise level in the work environment can be loud. The position ---PAGE BREAK--- Sanitation Driver City of Burley January 2019 regularly works near moving mechanical parts and in outside conditions that include inclement weather, heat and humidity, and exposure to dust and asphalt. Physical Demands The physical demand described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. This position lifts heavy objects up to 50 lbs. multiple times per shift, walks and stands for long periods of time and performs strenuous physical labor under adverse field conditions. The employee lifts, pushes, pulls or carries objects; uses abdominal and lower back muscles to provide support over time without fatigue. Must be able to bend, pull and push. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds with assistance. The position requires good manual dexterity (hand, hand with arm, two hands) and multilimb coordination. The position requires the ability to quickly move arms and legs. Position Type/ Expect Hours of Work This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM or 6:00 AM to 2:00 PM, 40 hours per week. This position occasionally requires long hours and weekend work. Travel Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some out-of-area and overnight travel may be expected. Required Education and Experience Equivalent to a High School Diploma and two years of driving experience. Preferred Education and Experience Equivalent to a High School Diploma and two years of driving experience and a Idaho Driver’s License, CDL Knowledge and experience in operating heavy equipment.
