City of Brighton Utilities Department Requirements for Hair Salons Installation of hair traps under each sink/tub is required. This must be a permanent fixture plumbed to the sink’s drain pipe, in addition to the regular/removable sink’s drain. Once Hair trap is installed, it must be inspected by Utilities Department. Hair traps are designed to trap hair before it gets into the sanitary sewer system, preventing clogs and the need for costly repairs. Installation of hair traps will help lessen the impact on the environment and reduce the potential of sanitary sewer back-ups by preventing hair from entering our municipal wastewater treatment facilities.
