Community Library Committee Meeting Minutes May 15, 2008 Parmly Billings Library Present: John Cech, Bill Cochran, Rita Kratky, Lloyd Mickelson, Suzanne Reymer, Eakle Barfield, Peggie Gaghen, Brent Roberts Not present: Valerie Martinez, Bruce McCandless, Jane Howell 1. The meeting was called to order at 11:30 pm. 2. The minutes from the April 17, 2008 meeting were approved as distributed. 3. City Update (Bill Cochran) – Just as a point of information, the Library Board has Long-Range subcommittees dealing with Funding and Facilities. The focus of these groups is not to duplicate the efforts of this committee but rather the existing Library and the possibility of a presence in the Heights along with the financial (Capital and O&M) consequences of each. 4. University Update (Eakle Barfield) The Project data description documents which were to be included in the Governor’s budget were discussed. It was suggested to Irving, TX as a successful example and in light of the 20x10 Initiative stress the benefits of shared Energy with the City. The Board of Regents will meet the end of the month to finalize the Long-Range Building Program for the University system. The amount of funds as well as what priority this project might receive remain up in the air in light of the Governor’s emphasis on Energy projects. We will develop a homepage on our web site with a link to the Parmly Library for the Community Library. 5. Subcommittee Reports Facilities – We have OCHE approval to go forward with the Planning Study. Bruce McCandless will assist the Subcommittee in the procedures for selecting an Architect. Kim Olson of O2 Architects would like to be considered for the project. Funding – has not met Planning – 9 members will be traveling to Wyoming and Colorado to visit other successful Joint Libraries and their staff. The City’s 15 passenger Airport van will be used. Eakle needs to figure out how to reimburse the City ---PAGE BREAK--- Governance – Will meet Monday, 19th @ COT. Policies – has not met. Will develop list of Joint Libraries. 6.
