TO: PARMLY BILLINGS LIBRARY BOARD OF TRUSTEES FROM: LESLIE MODROW, FOUNDATION DEVELOPMENT DIRECTOR RE: FOUNDATION REPORT MEETING DATE: May 14, 2009 • Food for Thought planning is moving forward and set for June 4, 2009 from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm. All tables are sponsored and table hosts are excited. Invitations were mailed out May 8. Credit card acceptance has been helpful. • “Can We Talk? A Community Conversation” continues to be a popular topic and gaining more steam. Had meeting with author Pat Hughes along with committee members Bill Cochran, Mary Hernandez and new to the group, Jani McCall. The Billings City Council is joining the process! • The Montana Library Association conference held in Whitefish, Thursday, April 23, was very successful and well received. My presentation was even incorporated into the keynote address by the speaker brought in from Ohio State University. There was a lot of interest in how Library Foundations work and how they help libraries. • Our May 7 Lunch at the Library was hosted by Evelyn Noennig and Kathy Cross. We had Frank Cross, Mike Follett, Julia Simmons, Craig Bartholomew, Darla Jones and Patrice Elliott attend the tour. • Illustrate A Story is moving forward with lots of interest from people willing to create books. The date for this event is November 5, 2009. • Grant update: We have received funding from Conoco Phillips for the Summer Reading Program. This flier lists recommended books for summer reading for children aged pre-school through high school. These fliers will be distributed to all schools in the valley. • Met with Joe Robinson and Lynn Caraveau, our investment management team at Wells Fargo, and presented our new Investment Policy. • Bill and I will be taking Dr. George Sheckleton out for lunch on Monday, May 18.
