Library Board of Director’s Foundation Liaison Report for June 2008 Denise M. Du Pont The meeting this last month was short and the relevant points are contained in the Foundation Director’s report. My question to the library board is this. Is there a specific issue you’d like me to bring up to the foundation? Is there a specific program(s) or type of program(s) you’d like them fund? As far as grants go, the foundation wants to pursue long term endowments versus smaller grants. I think they should do both. I have personally sent out 4 funding requests to various celebrities that reside Montana, i.e. Dennis Quaid, Meg Ryan, David Letterman, and Tiger Woods. We should hear back in a month or so. New building grants would be nice, and could sought, but timetables, specific locations etc still seem to be a continual work in progress. It is hard to ask for government or non-profit grants for “wanna be” projects vs. firm plans. As funds get tighter with this poor economy, we should have a clear plan as to what we want funded with a clear time line for new main library and various branches. My overriding question to the board is: I can be a voice or advocate for the board’s position on issues with the foundation. I’d like to have something when I go to the foundation meeting each month to discuss or advocate for, give me marching orders. What is the board position(s) that you’d like me to address to the foundation at their next meeting (July 22)? Thank you Denise
