Tooley Mayor RESOLUTION NO. 05-18233 A RESOLUTION PROVIDING SUPPORT FOR CLARK ON THE YELLOWSTONE, A NATIONAL SIGNATURE EVENT TO BE SPONSORED BY THE YELLOWSTONE COUNTY LEWIS AND CLARK BICENTENNIAL COMMISSION ON JULY 22-25, 2006. WHEREAS, the Yellowstone County Lewis and Clark Bicentennial Commission has requested a letter of support for Clark on the Yellowstone to be directed to the National Park Service, as well as a City contribution of $10,000 to the event and the use of the City's lobbyist to obtain Montana legislative funds in further support of the event; and WHEREAS, the City of Billings already has contributed in-kind services valued at $40,000 by hosting Lewis and Clark interpretive signage at Billings Logan International Airport from 2002 through 2004; and WHEREAS, the City of Billings also has agreed as part of a Policy Coordinating Committee with the County to dedicate $384,000 of 2003-04 CTEP funds to make landscaping and trail improvements at the Pompey's Pillar site for the event NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Billings (the "City") to further support Clark on the Yellowstone as follows: Section 1. Authorization of Matching Funds. The City hereby authorizes the expenditure of $10,000 from the Council Contingency Fund (010-1110-411.79-70) as a match for a Lewis and Clark Bicentennial Signature Event at MetraPark. Section 2. Use of the City Lobbyist. The City hereby authorizes its lobbyist to assist the in trying to obtaining funds from the Montana State Legislature to help support Bicentennial events in Billings and Great Falls. Section 3. Letter of Support. The Mayor is hereby authorized to sign a letter to the National Park Service indicating the City's financial and in-kind support for National Signature Event and Clark on the Yellowstone.
