TO: PARMLY BILLINGS LIBRARY BOARD OF TRUSTEES FROM: LESLIE MODROW, FOUNDATION DEVELOPMENT DIRECTOR RE: FOUNDATION REPORT MEETING DATE: March 12, 2009 • Gracious Space Update: o Following conference call with Pat Hughes, Billings has been selected as the “test model” for the impact of the Gracious Space workshop. The Center for Ethical Leadership and Pat Hughes will be working with us to measure impact over the next year. Follow up meeting scheduled for April 24. o Recruited Mary Hernandez to facilitate first Gracious Space book discussion scheduled for March 12. o Currently working with Mary on book discussion guide and format. This discussion guide will be forward to the Center for Ethical Leadership for their review and distribution. o Video of Pat Hughes discussing concepts of Gracious Space has been produced and will be incorporated into the book kits the Library will be putting together. o Plans moving forward for the next Gracious Space gathering scheduled for March 19 from 5:30 to 7:00 pm at the MSU-B Downtown campus. • Royal Johnson and I met with Joe Robinson and Melissa House concerning Wells Fargo account. Royal and I also attended a dinner and presentation hosted by Wells Fargo. Wells Fargo is scheduled to present account update at our March Foundation board meeting. • I am on the Library programming committee and we recently had past Library Board and Foundation representative Linda Grosskopf read from her new book about Governor Babcock. • Lunch at the Library this past month hosted by Mike Mathew who brought Joyce Mayer as his guest. This month, Evelyn Noennig and Norma Buchanan will be hosting. Scheduled guests are Nick Cladis, Amy Brown and Sherril Burke. Follow up from November Lunch at the Library guest Carol Burton, president of the Yellowstone County United Way. She approached Bill Cochran to partner of a reading program for teens. • The fourth annual Food for Thought, An Evening of Great Conversation is scheduled for Thursday, June 4. Table hosts are currently being confirmed as are table sponsors. ---PAGE BREAK--- • Illustrate a Story is scheduled for November 5 and we’re currently developing our own kits for authors. We will have the books published locally and will have the flexibility to do more with the books. Two people have already agreed to be authors. • Evelyn Noennig and I attended a training workshop entitled “Creating Boards that Lead” by Terry Profota. This workshop was hosted by the Empowering Youth Project. More details will be coming from this workshop. • Grant Update: I recently submitted grant to Humanities Montana for funding request for Food for Thought. • Deadline to announce recipients of the ICMA/Gates Foundation grant has been extended. Winners will be announced on March 6. This grant was submitted for funding Gracious Space follow up activities.
