1 July 14, 2005 MINUTES Present: Board Chair Lloyd Mickelson, Bill Lamdin, Linda Grosskopf, Dave Ward; Bill Cochran, Library Director; Dee Ann Redman, Systems Administrator; Nikki Broch, Friends of the Library Public Comment Broch reported that the Friends sold $167 in books at Summerfair and will have a Sneak Peek sale for members on Wednesday, July 27 from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Broch also reported that the Friends will sponsor a Montana Repertory Theatre event based on Ernest Hemingway in September. MOTION: Approval of June 16, 2005 minutes. Approved. Ward/Grosskopf Staff Report Cochran noted that circulation had increased in FY05 despite the Library’s closure during last summer’s strike. Interlocal Agreement Update Cochran distributed an excerpt from the City Council minutes of June 13, 2005 containing the record of the Council’s discussion prior to its amendment of the Interlocal Agreement. Cochran expanded on the written minutes to include more of the Council’s discussion points. Mickelson reported that he had spoken with County Commissioner Jim Reno and the Commission does not plan to put the Agreement on their agenda until they have heard from the Library Board. All Board members expressed objections to the amendment and support for the Interlocal Agreement as recommended by the Ad Hoc Committee. MOTION: The Board directs the Chair to present the amended Interlocal Agreement to the County Commission with a recommendation to the Commission to either decline to sign the Interlocal Agreement or to amend it by striking the Council amendment, returning it to the text recommended by the Ad Hoc Committee. Approved. Lamdin/Ward Library Neighborhood Development Update Cochran reported that the City is developing a Request for Development Proposals for the corner of 4th & Broadway, and will discuss the outline and scope of the project at the Work Session on July 18, 2005. Cochran further reported that the General Services Administration is interested in temporarily relocating Federal Courts and the U.S. Marshal’s Office to this area while the Battin Building undergoes renovations. ---PAGE BREAK--- 2 Trustee Training Workshop Cochran reminded the Board that the training will take place on August 11, 2005, beginning at 9:00 AM.
