Well grab it and join us every Tuesday at 10:45 starting November 1, 2022 You can purchase an affordable ukulele on Amazon.com! Ukulele Facts The ukulele is not a Hawaiian invention. The birth of the ukulele dates back to 1879 with the landing of Portuguese sailors on Hawaii, where it got its name. The most common assumption is that “uku” and “lele” mean “jumping flea” because when the Portuguese sailors arrived in Hawaii, the Hawaiians saw the players’ fingers jumping over the fretboard so quickly. In the 1920s, the traditional manufacturer C. F. Martin Guitars, among others, sold as many ukuleles as guitars. Ukuleles have become very popular because they are extremely fun to play, and they are easy to pick up and put down. They are simpler to play than guitars, and most chords are played with just one or two fingers. The fret- board is simplified compared to a guitar, with just four strings instead of six. Someone who plays the ukulele is called a ukulelist. Activity Update: Fitness Classes are going great! We have fitness classes everyday and the place fills up! But until then, here are some perfect fal des- sert recipes passed on to you by Center member and volunteer, Debi Kemp. Let us know how you like them! DIRECTIONS: Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Mix together dry ingredients in a small bowl. Combine eggs, sugar, oil, lemon juice, milk, lemon rind and extract in a large bowl. Stir in dry ingredi- ents until well combined. Stir in zucchini. Fill small bread pans or cupcakes to 2/3 full and bake at 350 15-17 minutes or until toothpick comes out clean. Cupcakes can be frosted with a lemon buttercream frosting if desired. Bread is tasty without any toppings. I freeze my loaves and from the freezer to the microwave for 2 minutes makes for a perfect snack. DIRECTIONS: Bring water to boil – add sugar and butter. Remove from heat and set aside to cool. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. In large bowl combine flour, baking powder and salt. Cut in ½ cup butter. Stir in milk; mix Roll out on floured surface to form 12” rectan- gle. Combine rhubarb, cinnamon and sugar. Spread even- ly over the rectangle roll. Roll dough and seal seam. Cut into 12 1-inch sections. Arrange in 9x13 greased pan and pour syrup over rolls. Bake at 350 degrees for 40 minutes. SIDE NOTE: I like to slice or mush strawberries and put on roll before adding the rhubarb. Top with whipped topping or ice cream. Recipe Gone Wrong I didn’t have potatoes so I substituted rice, I didn’t have paprika so I used another spice, I didn’t have tomato sauce, I used tomato paste A whole can, not a half can, I don’t believe in waste. A friend gave me the recipe, she said you couldn’t beat it There must be something wrong with her, I couldn't even eat it! (Unknown) ---PAGE BREAK--- Christmas is Coming!
