At Maturity This organic swiss chard matures in about 60 days. Plants grow 12–18 inches tall with a leafy, upright habit. Stalks come in a mix of red, purple, pink, orange, yellow, and white, paired with dark green leaves. Both leaves and stems are edible and have a crisp, savory flavor similar to spinach or celery. Care Swiss chard tolerates both light frost and summer heat. Keep soil evenly moist but not oversaturated. Monitor for aphids, flea beetles, fungal leaf spotting, mildew, and mold. For continued harvests, pick outer leaves regularly without damaging the center of the plant. ---PAGE BREAK--- Thyme Planting Sow seeds on the soil surface and press them into the soil, as light aids germination. Cover only very no more than 1/4 inch deep. Space plants 12–18 inches apart. In containers, sow several seeds and thin to one plant per pot, unless using a wide container that can support more than one plant. Growing Conditions Thyme grows best in full sun and prefers moderately rich, dry, well-drained soil. It performs best in warm conditions. Because thyme does not like wet soil, good drainage is especially important. At Maturity Thyme typically reaches maturity in 80–90+ days. Depending on the variety, plants may have an upright, low-growing, or trailing habit. Leaves are aromatic and sage- green, and plants produce pink-to-purple flowers. Care Avoid overwatering, as excess moisture can lead to root rot. Thyme is best suited to drier growing conditions and well-drained soil. Gardeners should watch for aphids, root rot, and downy mildew. Common X X X X ---PAGE BREAK--- Tomato - Cherry Sweetie Planting Do not direct sow. Start seeds indoors 7–9 weeks before your last spring frost date. Sow seeds 1/4 inch deep. Seeds typically germinate in 7–10 days at 65–85°F. Space plants 18–36 inches apart in the garden. For containers, grow one plant per pot and provide a cage or trellis. Growing Conditions Sweetie grows best in full sun and loose, well-draining, acidic soil that retains moisture. Ideal growing temperatures range from 70–85°F. Avoid excess nitrogen, which can reduce fruiting. At Maturity This heirloom, open-pollinated, indeterminate cherry tomato matures in 65–70 days from transplant. Plants grow 36–96 inches tall and produce red, extra-sweet fruit prized for snacking, salads, and fresh eating. Care Because it is indeterminate, this variety should be supported with a cage or trellis. Water consistently and avoid overwatering. Watch for common tomato pests and diseases, especially hornworms, aphids, blight, wilt, and mildew. X X X ---PAGE BREAK--- X X X X Come and Come Again Zinnia Planting Direct sow after the danger of frost has passed, or start indoors 4–6 weeks before transplanting outdoors. Sow seeds 1/4 inch deep. Seeds typically germinate in 7–14 days. Space plants 9–12 inches apart, with 12–18 inches between rows. For containers, use a pot with good drainage and enough room for mature plants. Growing Conditions Cut and Come Again zinnias grow best in full sun and well-draining soil. Ideal growing temperatures range from 60–80°F. Once established, plants are heat and drought tolerant. At Maturity This organic heirloom zinnia matures in 60–70 days. Plants grow 18–30 inches tall with an upright habit. Blooms appear in red, pink, orange, yellow, purple, and white from midsummer to first frost. Flowers are also edible and attract pollinators. Care Allow soil to dry between waterings, as zinnias do not do well in overly wet conditions. Deadhead spent bloomsto encourage continued flowering. Monitor for aphids, spider mites, whiteflies, and powdery mildew.
