Autumn is upon us and as the march toward winter begins, we get a brief reprieve, basking in the brilliant colors only unveiled this time of year. Though we try to duplicate these hues with crayon or paint, they are never quite as true as a changing tree or the blue of an autumn sky. You touch my heart in a different way, you stunning, breathtaking, enchanted time of year! (Yes, we are Bronco fans!!) He was 1 in a million. Everything about him was perfect for our family. We raised him along side our daughter and he even helped walk her down the aisle when she got married. (That wasn’t planned. We just forgot to put him away and since he followed Dave everywhere, it was inevitable!) Elway passed away in 2006 and took a huge section of our animal loving heart with him. For reasons I still can’t comprehend, I thought it would be the most wonderful idea in the world to throw our hearts right out there again to get beat up and destroyed so in December of 2022, we got a puppy! A sweet little 8 week old American Cocker who is NOTHING like Elway! He’s wild and crazy, loves to chew anything he can get his mouth on and Dave spends more time chasing him around than vise versa. His name is Sir Remington from the House of Cocker—Remi for short. We are all learning a ton and he has added so much to our lives! He gets to hang out with us at the Center and pretty much every- one who meets him thinks he’s pretty sweet (I am positive that’s not the case for all who have had the pleasure of being jumped on or barked at and to those I apologize from the bottom of my heart! We are all work in progress). But now I come to the reason for this rambling dissertation! Since we look for any reason to party: Remi’s First Birthday Party October 5, 2023 Join us for lunch and help us celebrate! Menu: Salad Bar Chili Dogs Tator Pups (Tots) And variety of “puppy themed” edibles! Call before 10:00 to sign up. ---PAGE BREAK--- ---PAGE BREAK--- -The Labrador Retriever has been on the AKC’s top 10 most popular breeds list for longer than any other breed. -A dog’s nose print is unique, much like a person’s fingerprint. -All dogs dream, but puppies and senior dogs dream more frequently than adult dogs. -A dog’s sense of smell is legendary, but did you know that their nose has as many as 300 million receptors? In comparison, a human nose has about 5 million. -Dogs’ noses can sense heat and thermal radiation, which explains why blind or deaf dogs can still hunt. -Yawning is contagious — even for dogs. Research shows that the sound of a human yawn can trigger one from your dog. And it’s four times as likely to happen when it’s the yawn of a person your pet knows. -Dogs curl up in a ball when sleeping to protect their organs — a holdover from their days in the wild, when they were vulnerable to predator attacks. -The Australian Shepherd is not actually from Australia. In fact, they are an American breed. -The Labrador Retriever is originally from Newfoundland. -Human blood pressure goes down when petting a dog. And so does the dog’s. -There are over 75 million pet dogs in the U.S. — more than in any other country. -A person who hunts with a Beagle is known as a “Beagler.” -Dogs are not color-blind. They can see blue and yellow. -All puppies are born deaf. -Dalmatians are born completely white. They develop their spots as they get older. -Dogs have about 1,700 taste buds. We humans have between 2,000 and 10,000. -A study shows that dogs are among a small group of animals who show volun- tary unselfish kindness towards others without any reward.
