City of Panama City Beach Laguna Beach Sanitary Sewer Project BAY COUNTY RESTORE ACT PROJECT NUMBER - - BAY PRP 2014-023 ---PAGE BREAK--- ---PAGE BREAK--- Laguna Beach Sewer System Project Area Approximately 1,000 home sites Lots were platted from 1937 until the early 1960’s PCB sewer system started in 1968 Over 95% still rely on septic tanks ---PAGE BREAK--- Laguna Beach Sewer System Project Area Septic tank drain fields percolate into groundwater 3 main water drainage areas Each drainage area flows to a natural freshwater pond/lake Lakes discharge to the beaches and Gulf ---PAGE BREAK--- Financial Considerations Total projected cost is approximately $7.8 million $1.5 million is requested from the initial Restore Act funds to start the project The City of Panama City Beach will match the $1.5 million requested The initial $3.0 million will allow the City to: Complete all design and permitting Construct three required sewer pump stations Construct the “backbone” of the gravity sewer system Additional extensions to complete the project will be funded via a combination of grants and City funds ---PAGE BREAK--- Goals and Objectives Conserve and protect natural resources Improve habitat and water quality Improve public infrastructure Enhance quality of life for Bay County residents and visitors Increase property values for residents Encourage redevelopment and renewal of older neighborhood
