SAMPLE NEIGHBORHOOD LETTER December 31, 2007 Dear Neighbor, I am currently conducting a survey to determine neighborhood sentiment concerning street lighting. I feel that streetlights are necessary due to: 1. The number of children in our neighborhood who play or ride bikes after dark especially in the summer. There have been many near misses involving children and automobiles, this would not happen if the streets were better lighted. 2. Property protection, an increase in the number or neighborhood burglaries in the last few months has highlighted a greater need for us as neighbors have, to be able to patrol each other’s property. If lights were in place, it would discourage break-ins. 3. Property value, studies indicate that the property with well-lighted streets have posted a greater value than comparable property without lighted streets. Enclosed you will find a street light program information sheet and a plat of our neighborhood. Please take a moment to look this over and let me know what your feelings are on this matter. I can be reached at (706) 821-1829 or feel free to stop at 1568 Broad Street. If there is anything that I can do to help you, feel free to call upon me. Your Neighbor and Friend, Charles W. Gifford Jr. Enclosures
