WEEKLY BRIEFS - City of Arvada internal news Feb. 19, 2024 Top 5 Trail Etiquette Tips In our continued effort to make Arvada’s 150-mile network of trails safe and enjoyable for everyone in our community, Arvada Media Services and VCN created this Top 5 Trail Etiquette Tips video. Watch the video to learn how you as a City employee can lead by example in creating a safe and welcoming environment on our trails. The video addresses some of the most common complaints we receive, including going too fast and not keeping dogs on a leash. Shoutout to Nature Center Director Anna Hoover for recording a great voiceover for the video! Join us for a group photo to commemorate International Women’s Day International Women's Day is March 8! The City of Arvada wants to recognize the dedication of the women who work at the City by taking a group photo on Feb. 29 in front of City Hall at 10 a.m. The group photo will be shared on the City's social media channels on International Women's Day. Infrastructure Naming the new Arvada pool - Share your preference by Sunday Public feedback will close Sunday, February 25. If you haven’t had a chance, visit the Meyers Pool replacement project page to share your preference on the name for the new facility. Email your news to ---PAGE BREAK--- Background on the process The City and our project partners at JeffCo Public Schools and Apex are launching a naming process for the new aquatics facility that will replace Meyers Pool. While the project is being referred to as the Meyers Pool replacement, this will in fact be a new facility. The facility will be an asset to Arvada and swimmers and divers across the region. The facility should have a name that reflects this and is responsive to the communities served by the new facility. These partners and our pool user groups have come up with a list of top contenders. Now, we want broader feedback from the community. W 72nd Avenue opens to four lanes Following a closure from Swadley Court to Simms Street, W 72nd Avenue was able to open to the new four lane road throughout the phase 2 project corridor (Simms to Oak). While intermittent closures can still be expected, work on this phase of the project has reached a significant milestone and substantial completion. The final phase of construction from Oak to Kipling, including the railroad crossing, is still under design with the railroad company and expected to begin in early 2025. Watch the drone footage of the improved, widened corridor or learn more on the project page.
