WEEKLY BRIEFS City of Arvada internal news Feb. 27, 2023 New City website to launch June 1 As you may have heard, the City’s new website, currently under construction, will launch on June 1. The URL for the new website will be ArvadaCo.gov. Emails to stay the same Given the change in domain for the new website, we’ve had many questions regarding email addresses. You’ll be glad to know that your email address will NOT change. What to think about NOW If you or members of your team have printed materials, such as business cards, letterhead, swag or other such assets with arvada.org on them, please start identifying and monitoring them now. As June 1 approaches, the URL address on such assets will need to be updated. (If you need to re-order PRIOR to June 1, please order in small quantities). Please donate whatever you can to reputable organizations providing relief efforts, such as the Red Cross or UNICEF. Your contribution can make a significant difference in providing basic necessities such as water and sanitation, shelter, food, and medical aid. Water Quality Analyst Suresh Niraula worked with the nonprofit Wine to Water to distribute and set-up water filters in his home country of Nepal after a devastating earthquake in 2015. Learn the dos and don'ts of single stream recycling The City provides single stream recycling in our employee work spaces. Watch this video to learn what can be recycled and what can’t. Visit the Nature Center’s new Beaver Dam Exhibit! The Majestic View Nature Center recently opened its newest exhibit, a kid-friendly beaver dam display. The exhibit features interactive signage and peek-through holes that make it great for kids aged 4 and up to crawl through and explore. The exhibit is available during public hours (Tues. through Friday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.) or during scheduled events. Watch this video to learn more about the exhibit! We invite anyone who spends time in Olde Town to attend an Open House on Wednesday, March 8 between 4 and 6 p.m. at New Image Brewery and Restaurant (5622 Yukon St.). This event offers an opportunity for community members to provide feedback on the final plan strategies and recommendations as well as design concepts for the future of the Olde Town Pedestrian Priority Zone. A corresponding online survey will be available starting on March 8 for those who cannot attend the event. Please join us to share your input and help guide the future of Olde Town Arvada! Email your news to ---PAGE BREAK--- Vibrant Community & Neighborhoods Work System Winterfest kicks off 2023 event season The Arvada Festivals Commission enjoyed a great start to the 2023 event season with Arvada Winterfest this past Saturday at McIlvoy Park in Olde Town. This year, the coldest thing at the event was the ice sculpture by Colorado Ice Works! We had beautiful weather all day long while guests enjoyed the pet ugly sweater contest, dancing with the Red Feather Woman, dragon and lion dances by the Colorado Asian Cultural Heritage Center, and of course the beer garden hosted by the Olde Town Arvada Business Improvement District. Next up is the Arvada Kite Festival on Sunday, April 16 at Stenger Sports Complex! Volunteers needed for the Arvada Reservoir this summer The City is looking for new volunteers to join the Arvada Reservoir Ranger program! The seasonal position runs April through October. This year's training is March 8-9, so now is the perfect time to apply to become a volunteer Ranger. Reservoir Rangers are a dedicated group of volunteers who assist with the daily operations of the Arvada (Blunn) Reservoir. Rangers provide guest assistance, first aid, emergency response and resource protection to enhance the experience of all reservoir visitors. Volunteers enjoy many perks and benefits, including free season-long admission to the Arvada Reservoir, an awards program based on number of hours served and an end-of-the-year banquet. Majestic View Volunteer Open House for potential volunteers Are you or someone you know interested in getting more involved in the community, making friends, learning new skills, spending time in a beautiful garden, or sharing your interests with others? If so, consider volunteering at Majestic View Nature Center! Join us on Saturday, March 4 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. to learn about the volunteer opportunities that are available and chat with current volunteers to ask your questions. No need to register, stop by anytime between 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Email your news to ---PAGE BREAK--- Infrastructure Lake Arbor moves into phase 2 of construction The Lake Arbor restoration and shore stabilization project is moving into phase two where construction will begin around the lake shore. Beginning in the northwest corner, segments of the trail will be closed to complete this work. Detour signs will be in place to navigate the closures. City staff also continue to monitor and mitigate the ongoing issues that have arisen during the project. Find more information on the project website: arvada.org/lake-arbor-restoration. Check out the new Olde Town Parking Finder The City recently launched a new tool to help travelers find and understand the parking options available in Olde Town. The tool can help find free and paid parking options as well as on and off street parking. The webpage even shows live updates on the number of spots available in the FREE Olde Town Parking Hub.
